Quick Question For GTP Owners

Getrag 284's are very strong. But clutches that will hold the power are crazy expensive for them.

Maybe that's what I was thinking about. All I remember hearing is that with a manual swap, unless you reinforce pretty much everything, you're not going to be able to safely make over 300hp or so.

I don't care who you are. You can't out shift an automatic. For drag racing purposes its the way to go. Doing a manual swap on these cars is absolutely pointless IMO. I'd rather spend that money and time making the car go faster. Which in reality won't be that hard to do and will be much faster than your Vette.

manual trannys take a better beating then a auto. clutches burn up if you dont know how to drive it right. or have lots of HP and just kill it.

bigger issue is finding one.

Driving a manual properly is a given. If you cant drive one and cant learn, you shouldn't have the car. Clutch is going to have to be done. Every manual has to have them done eventually. I think auto trannies beat on the engines harder with constant unwanted shifting. Especially if the tranny isn't working right it can beat the crap out of the motor.

I don't think that stick really does all that much, or makes that big of a difference. Yes some but no not worth givin up a gtp! I just raced my buddies mustang gt.5.0, and that is also stick, I didn't win, but it was dead even, over 100 side by side, and no one was budging ahead at all it was like we were sitting still. I was happy, that's a v8 in a pretty small car, and I got the grand prix gtp comp g.. which is a quite a bit bigger and heavier car than the stang. He said my supercharger screamin in his ear was insane. HA HA!!!! :)

manual tranny is for fun only in my book. gets pretty old after a few years too. my first few cars were all stick. and 2 trucks. i dont miss them, especially when snow plowing.
