Quick question about jack spots



I'm changing the oil so I'll be in the front... I use the were the rocker panel comes together right behind the front wheels to jack it up but I just want to be certain on we're I put the stands

If it looks like it has to carry the weight of the car, that's best bet for jack. They make "jack pads" to go over the rail in the owners manual location.

Future reference; Plastic ramps are way easier for oil. RhinoGear brand has 12,000 and 16,000 GVW versions, made in USA. $40 bucks.

When I was younger, I'd just drive the passenger tires onto a curb (97 & 99 GTP). There's room to get the filter if you turn the wheels. Use cardboard for drips.
 


Here in Cleveland you don't dare lift by the pinch welds.

the fat lazy bastards at the shops just kick the lift under the car without looking and crush them!!

 
I've been meaning to get ramps, just because the little floor jack I got 2 years ago is already completely worn out. I can literally watch it slowly fall when I stop pumping. lol
 
Gotta love racing the jack as it gets lower and lower. LOL

A few years back my floor jack died, so I used the factory jack from the trunk. I was done working, and as I was lowering the car with said factory jack, it crumpled and the car dropped, landing on a chunk of 4x4 that I was using; thank god. So here I am with a car sitting up on wood, and no jack to work with. I ended up grabbing the Hi-Lift jack out of the truck and using the Lift-Mate (wheel hook adapter) to raise the car up enough to remove the wood and get her back on all 4 tires. As I was lowering the car, I noticed that the lifting part of the jack was about an inch away from the wheel well; if the car dropped, the jack would have grabbed fender and kept it up in the air. With my luck, I was surprised it didn't happen. LOL
 


Ramps are a no brainer for quick fixes like oil changes. Or some work that doesn't require the wheel off. I actually prefer them for stuff like sway bar bushings, end links, etc, when I actually want the suspension compressed. Anyways...
 
Rick - Yep...Gave it too much gas and i had to slam on the brakes lol. I heard this skid on the ground as they moved haha. I usually royally screw something up the first time I attempt things, it's a curse. I just have to get it out of the way the first time.

That would be freaky. LOL

Before I got my ramps, I attempted to drive up a home-made ramp (stack of wood). As I started driving up, one piece came out and got jammed in the wheel well. Had to get the floor jack out to get it out. LOL

I helped a friend change oil taking for granted he'd used ramps before.

That guy near spun the tires on em, and they shot up and back pretty loudly. He was worried about the fenders on his '08 Taurus that was having it's annual oil change, no filter.

I was worried about my damn ramps, lol.
