Question on XP cam

So i've been looking all over the internet for the past few days and can't really find exactly what I'm looking for. I want to know what it's like after install an aftermarket cam, such as the XP. For one, I'm worried I won't be able to get my car down 3 hours away for a proper tune. I'd feel as if the car will die and not start, too low of an idle? Also, I don't know what to expect driving wise with it in. Can't find any personal experiences after someone camming their car and feeling the difference. I'm aware obviously that it will be more powerful, just not of how it will drive differently. Any input would be great, I'd like to hear more about this topic.

an XP cam will throw a random misfire code and you will have to have the pcm programmed to remove it. You can drive the car no problem though. You will hear and feel a lope at idle with a cam like an XP. A mail in tune will work to remove the code and a few other adjustments. You will have to let the tuner know your mods if you go the mail in route. Check out intense-racing.com. I'd suggest headers and a smaller pulley to make the most of the cam. Edit: just saw your list of mods in your sig. Your good with the exaust and you may be able to run a 3.2 instead of the 3.4

I already have ZZPs shelf tune before my headers and pulley were installed. I have a 3.2 ready for a tune if possible to run. I was planning on driving the car after the cam install down to Indy, 3-4 hours, to get everything dialed in. Was just wondering how driving it would feel and any problems that I will encounter. And the reliability of driving it on a canned tuned 3 hours away. Thanks for the post by the way.

You can drive it no problem. You will just see the check engine light if that code wasn't removed with your zzp tune. Im sure you know about the need for a stronger timing chain and stiffer valve springs too.

Nope, their 1.0 tune does not. As for how it will drive, I guess that's just something I'll have to experience first hand. No I got to know my limitations on what I can and can not handle lol.

The bigger cam lobes allow for more air/fuel into your cylinders and for more exhaust to exit. This will allow you to run a smaller pulley and get more boost and more hp. That bigger cam requires 105# valve springs and possibly different retainers. The stiffer springs will stress a stock timing chain so an upgraded timing chain is required. If you search l67 aftermarket cams on google and read up you'll learn a ton. Search this site too

In which I all have already lol. I understand the principles of what adding a bigger cam does, it's just not sure what to expect exactly lol.

Ok no problem just trying to help. Honestly an XP cam will only feel different at idle and has the potential for more performance with supporting valve train mods.

so just normal day driving and some half throttle pulls wont feel too different? I'm expecting it to drive like a whole new car lol. As in something I'm not use to.

No its not that big of a difference at all other than the idle sounds like rough. Some people loose a little gas mileage and of course with the supporting mods faster. A huge stage 3 cam requires even more supporting headwork and valvetrain mods and is a little less practical for a daily driver. My friend drove a stage 3 cam in his gtp for years even in winter however.

Ah alright. Was hoping it would drive alot better, but I also guess the tune comes into play. My biggest gripe right now is the jerking after normal driving between shifts, and the TC locking as soon as i switch into 4th, and 30mph into 3rd. Timing goes down alot into teens, impossible to keep speed and accelerate, ect. Going to try and work around that with the tune.

You should gain gas mileage. You will need at least 90# springs, and modded retainers. It will idle and sound different due to the better flow of the exhaust. Will still sound like crap at WOT. You should honestly feel a decent power increase across all RPMs.

I did feel a nice increase of power all across the RPM range. But I didn't gain any gas mileage, if anything, it's worse.

well thats a plus. I'll need to get this dyno'd cause i have no clue what power levels my car will approx get as well as what its capable off.
