Jfonger: to answer your question. A 97/98 is a Series II, as is a 99-03 (still Series II). The picture of the TB on the Gen V is a Drive By Wire. The bolt patterns are different and you can not put a 04+ Series III TB on a Series II SC. The possibly confusing part is the Series II motor has a Gen 3 M90 SC on it. There are adapter plates to go from Gen V SC (Series III motor) to a 97-03 TB or Northstar TB.
Eddie: there is no outward visible difference in the 97/98 vs 00-03 TB. The difference is inside when you look at the maf. 97/98 have a post with the maf in it, 99-03 have no post but the maf has a partial post molded into the plastic of it's body. PS beware which adapter you get. That looks like an old N*
