Hey, quick question, Ive recently cracked my front bumper cover, and i got quoted 800 bucks to get it fixed/painted all one tone. Now to me that sounds way to expensive, and since i have other parts of the car that could be painted, Im thinking for that much im just going to buy my own gun.

Ive been looking at this gun from eastwood.

would this gun be good to do the bumper and some other parts? i have everything but the gun. Any certain size tip i should get? THanks!!!
 


$800 isn't terrible. What all does that include? More than likely it's not just the bumper.

You don't just paint the bumper. It has to be sanded, flex additive, then primed, painted, cleared, wet sanded then buffed. Then you need to scuff the fenders and hood, and paint and clear them. Otherwise, if you paint the bumper it won't match the hood and fenders. Ever notice cars with different shades on the front end? That's why.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's more involved than just painting.

If you decide to do it make sure and paint it in a garage or ideally a paint booth were the parts can be baked.
 
Honestly I would check craigslist. Around here you got guys that will do it for $150. These guys have been doing it for 30+yrs and lost their job and are trying anything to keep their house. They even STAND by the quality of work.
 
I bought a gun for $50.00 from harbor freight did hood and bumper and blended the fenders for $200.00 in materials I made a booth inmy garage out of that heavy plastic they put on windows. It is a LOT of sanding but you can do it there are a lot of articles on line and you tube about painting and blending not hard but a lot of work and a fair amount of confidence. I painted about 6 cars in the70's when we used no clear coat and a whole different type of paint last year was my first shot with the new paints and clear coat so I am not new to this but not a vet either you can do it but takes time patience and confidence in yourself. If I can give and tips or lessons just let me know glad to help
 
Ok, i know it takes alot of work, he said 300 for the bumper plusother stuff plus labor. were goin to check out some other places too. i knowtheres alot of sanding and you have to blend the fender. just kinda checkin out my options.
