Hi guys so i was at schoool today braught up alldata looked up some stuff then stumbled across a NOTE: it said something like after rebuild and you install pan again besure to purge "or prime" the oil system... how the hell do you do this? thanks :th_thumbsup-wink: im sure i know how im just thinking to hard ha

un-plug the coil pack, turn key 10-15 seconds or so and stop, turn key 10-15 seconds and stop, turn key 10-15 seconds, then stop. You could do this while your doing a compression check. After your done, connect coil pack, then start the car up.

is there a way to work the pump but not the rest Ill look it up on mitchell tomorow or ask our gm certified instructors

i told my dad about this process and he said theyre doing it tonight thanks man for the help.. but i was thinking how do you know if your oil pump is shot or not? :th_tongue2:

if your oil pump is shot you put together something wrong. it doesnt go bad. its attached to the crank. if the crank is moving, so is the oil pump.

unless you have like eleventy billion miles on your motor. its one of the most bulletproof parts on our motor.

While I agree...it's not impossible to kill. I saw a guy with about 150K on the motor and his pump launched and took the rest of the motor out.

Because our pump is driven by the crankshaft, unhooking the ICM is the way to go to prime it up.
