this is a generalized to work on any vehicle except the hud rewire

so i did use an official mopar part in my gtp

they are 50$ and don' look tacky like others
i do recommend this one from ignited performance

so first thing is first for me was mock up
i knew i had to have it on the right hand side of the steering wheel, so the hud was moved to the left hand side

for the back plate i used an xbox 360 case doubled up and rtv'd together so it would stay flexible

in order to get the switch to work i had to make my own connectors. so i cut off the excess plastic from crimp connectors and crimped them straight to the posts
310620_10150920539130335_558740334_21837471_278810819_n.jpg

i used good old fashion plyers to make everything snug as the crimp was just a tad too small for the pins

here you can see the end result for two switches i did
317698_10150920555455335_558740334_21837611_1660713610_n.jpg

painted the back plate, mounted the push button starter to the back plate and then epoxied the backplate to the dash cover

also the trim ring is from an old hard drive and it fits perfectly
390555_10150922014720335_558740334_21846811_419490845_n.jpg

and yes i know the paint is ****ed in this pic as i was only really testing proof of concept at this point

now i had to extend my hud harness to relocat the switch to the other side, this was a real pita. the write up that was on here for relocating had you buy extra male and female connectors in order to make a plug and play setup. i highly recommend you use that method.

the reason the soldering is so hard is because they are 20 gauge wires, 2 browns, 3 grey and two that were aged to look the same (tan and white?)

the hud switch you trim the side brackets off that align the switch

all said and done it lines itself up w/ the stupid side locks

wiring. i don't have pics yet but
for the switch to work you need to tap your ignition starter wire and a 12v+ source
so look for the fattest yellow wire, that is your starter wire, (there are a few smaller gauge wires as well but they go to abs and the airbag so do this at your own risk)
now the fattest red wire is a battery wire, so it's always on. i tapped the two and hooked it up to the switch which means you can start the car with either the key or button.
BUT THE KEY MUST BE IN THE ON POSITION TO USE THE BUTTON
so to just use the button cut the yellow wire and hook it up to the side that heads towards the firewall

i used an old power mirror m/f clip set so i could remove the dash trim when needed

so all said and done

please note i am not responsible for messing your car up if you try this

also do NOT push the button w/ the motor on as you'll just grind the starter

Lmao! My secret project has been found out! I've been working on designing a circuit for this so I don't have to spend a buttload, which also includes an anti-grind circuit. I'll post the circuit design when I'm done so people can make a DIY one.

Mine also includes relocating the ignition lock cylinder, and I'm currently working on an RFID proximity solution to completely eliminate the key altogether. Just get close to or in the car and it'll be able to start. Gotta say I like my button better though :P

the indication LED contains a red LED, a yellow LED and a green LED for different status indications, which my circuit will also provide outputs for.

I must say though, I am ironically impressed with both what you have done and with the timing at which you have done it.

You ruined my surprise :( lol

Edit: P.S. You can use pretty much any push to make button that's rated for at least an amp at 12v, you didn't have to go spend a bunch on a fancy OEM one lol.

PM me if you get this completed and the design posted... I don't wanna miss it lol

I've actually made the executive decision to go with an Arduino-based solution. It will be much easier to do it this way as people can just buy the board and install the software rather than requiring them to solder their own board, plus all decisions will be easily modifiable through software updates, such as crank time, LED status, push-to-start hold time, etc. It's going to be epic.

Damn that makes mine look like a steamy pile of poo

This! Already have an Arduino board.

From the looks of things thus far it's seems like the entire RF key fob and pushbutton start system will be under $100 (less than half of buying a finished aftermarket product). The only catch is that people will have to make their own fobs because it has to be an active system to get the necessary range of a few feet, and to do it cheaply it has to be done with a custom implementation.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that it will require an immobilizer bypass module that you would normally use with an aftermarket remote start system, which will be different for many years of the car.

as long as there is a decent write up to show what needs to be done to get the board to work and a key fob it shouldn't be too difficult for me

Zero thats really cool, but no offense I would be interested in a write up for the one boats got going on lol

Can't wait PM me when you got it done

This is sooo sick, right when i saw this an idea popped to my head if its possible that u can flip it so lets say if someone broke into the car attempting to steal it, it wouldnt crank, but all they had to is flip it press the button and bam!. i hope u guys understand what i mean by flipping it. the back plate can flip inside and out. as in its visible but when its turned its not. Sounds hard but imagine!

Something similiar to this! or well what i said, this is pretty hidden. I found this off of a mazda forum thread.

Well I would never suggest setting up a pushbutton start that would start the car without any sort of verification that the driver was authorized to drive the car (aka a key). Still working everything out with parts compatibility and whatnot, but I think it may be more in the range of $150 now for the RF fob / pushbutton start system. Price hike is because RFID doesn't have the range necessary, so a more expensive RF system must be used, which has a far greater range of 300ft if antennas are used. However I'm going to omit the antennas and somewhat muffle the signal so the range is only about 5ft. I'll post back with more information when I have it.

Hell yeah that is cool chit! Maybe go biometric if you are really ingenious. Now if you guys can figure out how to flip my license plates around like the Transporter does I'd be set, no more red light tickets! JK. but the idea is very cool

Yeah how the button is next to the ash tray, who would go looking there? But I would just pull the ash tray and it's there. Lol. Sneaky but not sneaky enough yet it's enough that even the car jacker is like wow, but then when he presses the button it called the cops (:

in my rents corolla it has the push button system with no key. u can sit in the car and press the button all u want but it dosnt do anyhting untill the fob is inside the car. u cant even lock the keys in the trunk lol it wont let you. deffinitly interested
