Push button for park-lock solenoid in column??

Ok...I finally figured out that there is a little solenoid in there that is keeping me from getting my keys out of the ignition.

Well, apparently this is something the genious at GM either knew about or planned for because the plastic cover had a boss/provision for a push button molded into it.

So do they actually make the pin or whatever goes in that hole that can be pushed to release the key? Right now I have a bolt with a vacum plug on it and it seems to work....but if there is a proper part out there, I'd use it.

Of course, if someone could tell me what size that little bolt is that holds the solenoid in I'd just remove it.

I havent a clue if theres a special tool but what i did was I just took a zipstrip and put it around the solenoid holding it in the pressed position. problem solved!

hey man i got a rubber band doing mine! haha. Is this a really dumb idea for us tho because it can be pushed into reverse while in drive going forward and could possibly get bumped. Also you can shift gears with no keys when the car is off.

Kinda scary not having this saftey feature of the lock.

have you had any problems?
