Pulling the engine and/or trans

A few questions:

1. Can the trans be pulled out from the bottom WITHOUT dropping the subframe?

2. Can the engine and trans be pulled out from the top as one unit?

I would rather pull the engine and trans out together from the top. The trans is going to need a rebuild so I might as well pull the engine too because there are a few things I want to do to it. If not I can just pull the engine first and then the trans if they can't come out together as one, but I just wanted to know. Thanks

If you learn to search, you would easily find answers to those questions

Oh how original. Funny, I remember when I used to say that to newbies on a different forum for a different car. After a while I would just answer their questions instead of being a jerk.

I have seen this: http://www.gpona.com/forums/transmissions-f15/transmission-removal-t27215.html

But I have also seen this: http://www.ehow.com/how_5403486_replace-transmission-grand-prix.html

Hence my confusion for the first question.

And for the second question, really all I need is a yes or no answer.

one is for each, one is a engine removal, the other is a tranny removal.

you can also drop the sub frame and lift the car up over the whole engine, tranny and sub frame.

I've dropped the driverside of the sub frame to replace the tranny, tried to cheat....it works, but imo, its far easier to just pull the combo out the top. i didn't have to remove the master cylinder either... or the hood for that matter. cherry picker and a leveler (or just ratchet straps lol) are worth their weight in gold.

That's right, I am being a "jerk". This question has been asked many times in the past few weeks and people keep making new threads over it when there is already a solid write-up for it. Myabe if you weren't such a JERK, you would read this when you first signed up. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/36503-New-Members-Helpful-Threads

Allow me to help. I've done a few write ups and all can be found by searching on "ea sy" without the space and my user name.

Here's engine only

Here's trans out the bottom (does require cradle pull, will not screw up alignment)

Here's trans and engine out the top

Thanks BillBoost, I found your and browsed through your write-ups a few days ago actually. I found them to be very good. I just was not a fan of having to drop the subframe, even though its not a big deal. I've done it before with my camaro but I was hoping to get away from having to do that with this car.

My dad and I swapped transmissions in his 99 voyager last year and we didn't have to drop the subframe so I was surprised that these cars needed it

I will pull the engine and trans from the top since I want to do some things to the engine anyway (like a leaking rear valve cover etc.)
