Pulling out the stock airbox finally!!!

Ok so I'm finally ripping out the piece of junk stock airbox (05 GT) and putting in a HAI for while until maybe I put a Wiz or some other CAI in. Im going with a 9" Spectre filter from AutoZone but not quite sure how to hook it up to MAF and after looking at that isnt the corrigated rubber tubing pretty crappy in terms of restriction between the TB and MAF? Any suggestions for this project I know a lot of people have done it a million different ways?
 


You'll need to support the filter somehow.

Some use zip ties for that.

The other bit would have to be replaced with something like a silicone coupler.
 
I kept the stock rubber tubing for now until I can get some aluminum tubing. I cut the mounting ring off the stock airbox and fixed it to the end of the hose, shaved off the ridges, and pushed the cone flush over the end of the stock hose (where the clamp had been). It holds the cone firmly enough that I didn't tie it down.
I noticed the engine temps run up to 20* hotter when poking around or stopped. I know it's a hot air intake, but is this typical?
 
Ok I'm gonna try and put it all together Friday along with cleaning the TB since she is starting a little rough and I just cracked 50k and then oil change and rotate tires before I head out for spring break. For those of you with 04+ what size couplers will I need? I only have one car so I gotta get everything together before I start or I'm SOL
 


Ok, im in the middle of attempting this but I cant brain to save my life and am stuck figuring out how to connect spectre to maf since its 3 1/4 and spectre does 3, 3-1/2, or 4. Anyone got some ideas?
 
Im in the same boat. Got to the point were I was wondering if it was worth all this driving around town and buying stuff only to have to return it. My next thought is to order the Spectre 4" diameter 45 degree mandrel along with a 4" to 3.5" and a 4" to 4" rubber coupler and I might get the 4"-4" straight tube. If this doesn't work I am going to look for that CAI on ebay that they talked about in another forum. Sorry dont have the link right now and Im not sure where I saw it.

Ok well I just got back from spring break I kinda threw the intake on at the last minute but all i did was take a FEIN multimaster and follow the seam on the stock airbox to reuse the PCM holder. Then I took the filter with the smallest adapter removed and bolted it directly on the MAF without a problem. Ziptied the whole thing and took a little rubber strip to protect the PCM from if the filter vibrated and rubbed against it. Disconnected the batter for about 15 minutes to clear the fuel trims and then took her on a trip from NE Ohio to Hilton Head. Got 30-32 mpg doing 75-80 the whole way even up and down the mountains. Definitely has more growl to it above 3k RPMs though it makes an odd like ticking or rattle under medium load around 2.5k. Is that normal?
 


Not sure if you solved this issue, but i also have that ticking sound. However, i didnt get it until I cleaned my MAF sensor. Did you clean you MAF sensor? If so, with what? Also, it only makes the ticking sound while driving... cant really get a video of it.
