Pulley drop question

I'm not going to do it tomorrow or next week, but I am planning on doing a pulley drop after molding my car in the future. I'm curious as to what the life expectancy of a car is after the drop, I imagine not great but still I'd like guys that have done it to tell me their experience. My car is an 07 gt with 125k on it.

Well if you have a completely stock motor and you drop a 3.4 on, its going to last around 3.4 seconds... Headers, Intake, 180* TStat and a tune and a way to scan for knock it'll last just as long as stock. These motors will handle more power stock then you'll ever make.

Ya, I said I was going to drop my pulley after I mod my car, I know the necessary steps needed to be able to drop my pulley. That being said, if modded correctly, what is the life expectancy of a car with a 3.4 pulley? It's a stock car as far as I know, I have an obd 2 scanner and am looking at getting either tuning software for my laptop or a Diablo tuner. Btw, thanks sgtmarshall for the info, if I get 200k out of the car then I'll be more than pleased.

Adecker, I'd like a number honestly, I don't want to mod my car and then it have a catastrophic failure a few months later. I know modding is a skill and if not done right it can destroy an engine, I'm just curious as to how far I can take it before I have to worry about cutting the lifetime of the vehicle.

There is no way to get you a number of how long its going to last. I have 130k on my setup and I have been pushing 550whp for the last 20k and well above 360 for the last 50k....

That's more of what I wanted to know, 50k is 10 years or so for me as I barely get up to 5k a year, most of the time I'm closer to 3k. I don't drive much lol.

Started with a 200Kish car, started modding around 230K, sold it with nearly 300K miles.... Just headers, HAI, 3.6 pulley drop, tune. Pretty mild, probably only 250WHP.

I would say that at a mild mod level like that with no KR and proper tuning, there is barely any meaningful engine wear increase. Your maintenance habits will likely have a much greater effect on engine life.

I'm looking to go a little further than that, the 07 supposedly has 260 hp stock and I'm hoping to increase that to around 500 if I can. I'm no mechanic but I do like to try lol.

The engine is rated at 260hp. ~220ish to the wheel? But if you want 500whp then you're wasting your time on a blower setup. Turbo ftw.

Do you mean GTP? Kind of a big difference...

Oh yeah I forgot the GTP was dropped in 2006. But I did not know the GT's came with superchargers. That was stock from the factory? I had no clue and I read wikipedia like 5 times...

He needs more than headers, a tune, Tstat, and FWi to put a 3.4 on a Gen V. That's 3.6 type stuff. Either way he needs to scan for sure.

He's right. With SD headers, intake, overkill tune, 180* and al 104's, i still saw anywhere from 1-3* of knock on a 3.5. Get you an elm 327 and the torque app and scan for KR before you start modding. You'll have knock now, and even after headers maybe a degree or so occasionally.

It's your car, but I wouldn't go to a 3.4 to start with.

And to your original question OP, I've been modded for almost a year, about 15k miles, and no issues. IF you do it correctly, mods help your car, not hurt it.

You'll have knock now stock. If you mod, and do it right, You can have none and be much faster. There is no time limit after modding that your car will grenade, unless you mess something up.
