pulley/belt squeak

I have a 2008 Pontiac Gxp and am trying to diagnose an annoying squeak. I'm just trying to get some help with the easiest way of figuring out what is making a noise. Is there something I should try first to test it. also it only does it when you barely start the car. It doesn't seem like it's doing anything to it performance the noise is just annoying. Kind of OCD about the way the engine sounds. Thank you for your help

take the belt off, then spin all the idlers and tensioners pulleys my hand, if you find one thats not smooth spinning, it should be the squeak.

you can also take the belt off, then start it up for a minute, if the sound is gone, its in the belt area for sure. dont run the car long with no belt, your water pumps not spinning so it can over heat.

awesome I definitely appreciate it thank you very much. I will give that a try later today or tomorrow and reply and let you know if that worked. Thank you again

I have a 2002 GT but I had the same problem. Took off the belt and rotated each one. Turned out to be the power steering pump. Put some oower steering fluid in and it works great

hey thank you everyone for your help. Ended up just needing some belt dressing lol. Thank you very much for the help though

time for a new belt, that stuff dont last but a day or two. you can try cleaning it with warm soapy water and a scrub brush.

Chances are if you applied belt dressing, you applied it to the smooth surface of the belt. If this is true you narrowed your problem down to the smooth surfaced pulleys. Follow scotty's suggestions on hand spinning the idlers. Also look to see if the belt is tracking properly. A worn tensioner or idler pulley can cause the belt to track at an angle causing the belt to slide resulting in a squeak.
