Proportioning valve upgrade

Ok guys plan on doing the fbody swap up front and gxps in rear. I hear with the setup if you dig in the brakes it gets a bit unruly so someone suggested swapping out the proportioning valve with one from a 05 GXP and it would solve this any ideas? is it worth it?

Ahhh.. I was told that about doing the Fbodies w/o upgrading the backs. If you get too much front end dip and rear end lift..it'll happen.

I'm in to see if it helps.

Not sure what the various amounts of part numbers will do without some direction.

Looking into the brake setups between my 99 and the 05s GXP and Non, there are no "proportioning valves" on the rear lines like ours. I believe its all done from the actual Brake Pressure Modulator Valve under the hood. Which being electronic with its own pressure sensor, will likely require a sensor change being added as I cannot find a sensor for the older body styles.

Was Logan meaning a whole new Modulator Valve, or the actual proportioning valves on the rear lines?

Not quite yet. I still have some researching to do, just got busy at work and didn't get back to checking but I will when I can on Monday.

I spent a good amount of time looking over the options on the GXP and Non-GXP options on the 05 models and didn't get anything positive but still think it could be in another year model.

:th_scratchhead: Ok, I'm out of places to go. Need to go back to the drawing board and/or talk to the guy who suggested it, make sure he was right about the car. 04+ as best as I can show on my catalog or find on Google does not use a Proportioning Valve on the brakes. I would guess that with the updates in technology, the Electronic Brake Control Module and Modulator Valve does its job well enough the need for the Proportioning Valves was no longer needed.

I even ran the part number for our body styles 98-03 and it didn't go much further than 03 across the board with Regals, Monte Carlos, etc...

ABS applies to the rear too on our cars right?

I would think something wrong with it if the rears are locking up, even after that kind of a brake upgrade.

So Sheffer the 04+ may or may not have rear ABS.

Yes though..the rears in my year have abs and the theory/warning I got was that the front drops enough that the rear comes up and doesn't get grip. I think the only issue would be when turning and hammering the brakes.

My 98 car has rear prop valves, they are the fat round things that are inline with the rear brake lines. On my car they are about 6inches in from where the metal lines connect to the brake hoses in the back. fat round aluminum about 3" long. Those may be what you were hearing about. Not sure if they continued to use them through the entire year range of our cars. I will check at work tomorrow and see if I can get some part numbers for those and what years cover what. AND if there is a different part# for the gxp.
