i already have too many projects going on but heres my idea

a close friend of mine offered me a fairly complete 1974 MG MGB 4speed, 4 cyl.
interior is toast, he wanted 500$ for the car it has some rust issues as those cars never had any drainage built into the bodys.

my thought was buy the car drop a L32/T5 (1500$) patch the rust, fuel cell and cage, build some fender flairs for wider tires, rattle can paint job and race it.

the budget would look like
car (500)
motor/trans (1500)
fuel system+misc (900)

i have some autometer ultralight gauges laying around, plus lots of bar stock and rollcage tubing.

have a very lightweight 1900ish lbs with 300hp car would be fun, i think

anyone have opinions on this?

this is happening, the IS is for sale if interest pm me.

looking for 99+ gtp/gs complete engine harness, SII L67 engine mileage doesnt really matter just needs to run. cluster,

Re: project idea

i'd do it

but if your gonna joing a budget drag club you may want to watch your budget or keep track of it

you can say have a cousin sell you the motor for 50$ just get receipts and ****. but i can't with the black pos as the roof rails and exhaust killed that

Re: project idea

Go for it. I had a similar idea for a project like that. I want a TR5/6 and do an L67 swap.

There's a Caterham (Lotus 7) at Autocross that has an L67 /T5 and that thing scoots. They start in 3rd gear I think and its just about the fastest car out there. Only mods motor wise are intake, LTs with side dumps and a tune. These motors sure do sound good too with dual exhaust.

Re: project idea

theres a kit car around here, little 2 door roadster that was supposed to be an ls1 kit. that the guy did an l67 in instead. its pretty sick. sounds like this could work

Re: project idea

after reading up on this.

theres a "rover" V8 swap thats pretty common actually. the rover shares the same motor mount location and bellhousing pattern as 3.8 SIIs, so its very doable, the height of the motor would require a cowl, or cut a hole for oldschool look. i asked a friend if he wanted to split the build cost up and help get this rolling if hes interested at all in it.

Re: project idea

Just cut the outline of the blower out in the hood. I've Sen a Vette guy do this and it looked awesome.

Re: project idea

looks like this project might actually happen.

BCC performance makes killer B swap kits (3X00) motors for very cheap, you use a T5 transmission (mustang based for internal linkage and offset) you get motor mounts, headers, driveshaft and can opt for wireing still retains EFI. i emailed and theyre interested in a 3.8 specific kit, (boooost). a good friend of mine is willing to chip in some money and fabbing for this. stoked

Re: project idea

i totally would love to put some time in on this if you want help. i love custom projects, but was never able to get into one with my own bank account.

Re: project idea

Does this 74 run well, or is it a basketcase? I happen to own both a 74 MGB GT and a 74 Midget and wouldn't mind having a spare engine/trans. if it's in good shape. And no, I won't be swapping the Rover V8 in, or the Buick V8 which is also popular. Although I do have a spare 302 laying around. Hmm...
