One thing that sucks about getting older is your words get heavier. Or at least youngers find them more difficult to understand and assume everything is a jab if they don't know how to take it. Bizarre meant it shocked me. Chopping up a low buck hood don't bother me at all. Your insurance man might not like it. I was puzzled by a move so drastic when theres no clearance issue and no boost. Most people put a scoop when they cut a hole but I respect your logic. What I see is a white hood with eye holes, looking at the pics. Check out the Sonny and Cher Mustangs Barris did. Somebody might ought to have told him something.

Strictly for air movement. That engine takes up 70% of the engine bay. Another 20% is battery, ABS module, etc... Leaves very little room for the air to escape after coming through the radiator. Just playing with different theories. Having fun. Hot rodding!

Ins man might frown because the cut hood arguably compromises the crash rating. I take it that you would run no hood but this way cops won't mind or care. Nothing wrong with experimentation but, and I hesitate to post this... to ME, hot rodding is modifying for increased top speed. Period. A friend a bit above my age said the same thing yesterday about feeling like he was truly hot rodding because he managed to get his trans cooler line adapted to a new radiator. So I know it means different things to different people. To each his own. I call myself a not rodder, maybe you are a hot rodder or hot modder. I just do old car bodywork and use old Grand Prixs and miss test-n-tunes. Personally I might have tried pop-up flaps where the eye holes are, to prevent sunshine directly on engine stuff if heat management is what you're after. But, you have the desired result now and yours is the only opinion that matters. After the kids, of course. Keep showing folks how good work is done!

I think some of us may be missing that nothing stays the same on the truck for long. 60 pages later, there have been multiple revisions and changes. Here's looking forward to hood version #2, 3, 4 and 5

I like where your head's at. I'm sure we'll come up with something. It may be inspired by a future mod.
I guess I could see that. Maybe "hot rodding" was the wrong term for me to use. Maybe "customizing" would have been more appropriate.
I like that idea. Not sure I could have pulled it off though. Eventually, I'd like to go back and install some sort of perforated steel or expanded metal to keep large objects out. I'd also like to install some sort of gutter system on the off chance I happen to be driving on one of the 6 days a year it rains here.
Thanks man. I'd be just as happy with this truck if there was nothing about on the internet. I keep posting stuff in the hopes that it will motivate and inspire others. 5 years ago I couldn't change the spark plugs on our minivan. Now I rebuild transmissions as a hobby.

I finally got myself one of them fancy cell phone holding devices. A $5 Ebay mount, some free plexy, a couple dabs of hot snot and I'm in business!
This will be extremely handy considering I need my GPS pretty much anytime I leave the house. I wasn't blessed with a great sense of direction.

That's a good spot for it so it won't get baked in the sun. And don't feel too bad, I use my GPS a lot for work even in my own city. I know my way around better now but there are still times I can get lost pretty quick. I just call it the "scenic route".

Before I typed bizarre I think I backspaced wild, then unusual. Shoulda went with wild.
Ricers shim the hood hinges. Rich folks put cowl hoods. Its an LS-10 now. And I had no idea you have only been playing with cars a few years. You do stuff nice and logical thats why the klan hood got my attention. Ha.

No worries man. I should have known there was no ill intent. It can be hard to convey tone through text alone. I know I struggle with it.
Made a little progress on the 60e. Got it on the "fixture." Saved the flexplate from the S10's original 4.3 for this exact reason. Working well so far!
Pan and VB off. No chunks of metal and the magnet only had sludge on it. No debris. Looking good so far.
Checking the endplay. I don't have the fancy J tool, but with an overall range of 0.021" I figured the old dial indicator would be just fine. FWIW, total endplay was right at 0.050" and you're allowed 0.036" max. I assume that can be reduced with a selective washer somewhere inside. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Managed to get the harness off without breaking any retaining clips!
Keep it organized.
Hoping to get it fully disassembled this weekend.

One of the most common failures in these... I was actually a little worried about mine yesterday. I had a 05 Harley Heritage Softail in the back of my S10 and a 17’ Carolina Skiff on the bumper. My 4.3 is getting so weak I couldn’t use overdrive without it jumping in and out of 3rd. So I just left it in 3rd for the trip up from GA to NC.

Got the teflon seal installer today. Or so I thought...
Pretty sure they sent the wrong one. Hotdog down a hallway and such. We'll see what they say.

I got the turbine seal instal kit the other day.
Turns out, the kit they sent was for the stator shaft. I didn't even think about it, but I would eventually need this kit and probably ordered it within the next couple of days, but because it was their mistake, I got it for free!
Also had to order some special tools to compress the overrun clutch spring assembly. Then I could get the snap ring out/in.
Something I thought was funny... A while back, I bought a pile of 4t65e trans tools from the Billboost37. Included in that pile was some stuff I had no use for, until now. There was a lip seal protector and some grabber thing that I used to pull the low/reverse assembly. Came in super handy. Thanks Bill!

Indeed it did.
Pump is in. Working on the valve body now. Taking way longer than I expected. I'm just not feeling the passion for this one.
