Mine handles waaaayyyyy better courtesy of a ZQ8 steering box with the lower profile tires. Lowering it will also help.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

And you don't have New England roads..... friend of mine in Florida didn't realize a bunch of suspension was bad on her car because she no longer lives up here with horrible roads

Don't kid yourself. Even without frost heaving and snow plows, our roads are still crap. Poor city management, misallocation of funds, bla bla bla. We have money to paint rainbow crosswalks, but can't toss some cold patch in the craters. It's a sore spot for me.

Next set of tires will be 245/50-16's. That's the factory size for 4th gen f-bodys so the price for 4 is decent. That will likely be the extent of my handling mods.

I run 245/40R18's all the way around. Get a slight bit of rub on full lock but nothing I'm excessively worried about.

I'm not kidding myself.. been the Aridzona. You sir... are misunderstanding the quality of New England roadways. I'll get you a picture soon.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

All you girls crying about roads, go to chicago, the pot holes will eat your car.

I get what you guys are saying. Not disagreeing at all. I'm not saying your roads (or anyone else's roads for that matter) don't suck. My point is more along the lines of; For a place with no frost or snow plows, our (Tucson) roads suck. Irrespective of any other place in particular. All the surrounding areas have great roads. Phoenix, Sierra Vista and Casa Grande are all pretty decent. Scottsdale, and Surprise are fantastic.

Here's an article from a local news source that details how Tucson ranks No.1 for crappiest roads out of 11 western urban regions. It's purely political.

We're No. 1 — in potholes | Local news | tucson.com

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

Changed the trans fluid yesterday. It looked decent and didn't have that many miles on it, but it had seen +220° many times. Now that the cooler is in and proven, I wanted to get some fresh fluid in it. This fluid shouldn't see anything over 190°. That drain plug on the 80e is nice. Having flexible AN lines made the flush process pretty easy.

Made it out to the T&T last night. 13.978 was my best pass. I think that's pretty much the best I can do with my current setup. I managed to launch a lot harder, but then spun a bunch more on the 1>2 shift so it all washed out. Also felt it layover on the 2>3 shift. I need to check the logs, but I think I need to lower the shift speed. Might have touched the limiter. I guess that's the point of test and tune.

The other cool thing is seeing what cars run in the real world. Not internet numbers, but numbers on the board. Specifically newer stock vehicles. I know for a fact that my truck is faster than a 2017 Charger. :)

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

nice times, once you break into the 9's the tracks require roll cage. Do you got one?

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

you add any timing to that tune yet? no way you should be running the same time as my pos regal, and this new tune i know its gonna go faster.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

My bonneville with 3.29's, headers, Gen V 3.2 and s1x pulled a measly 13.185 with me smoking off a 2.2 second 60 foot. Just saying. It was also a nice cold October night.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

Adding timing won't change much, they stop making power on the stock camshaft in the mid 20's. Anything higher than 25-26 degrees isn't getting you any extra power. Torque is on a slight downward taper after 4,000rpm with the factory cams.

Nope. Not sure I want to even take it that far. If (someday) I want to go really fast, I'll build a dedicated racecar. This thing still has to be a dependable daily. The race car stuff is just a bonus.

Nope. I'm not sure how much added timing would help. It still pulls a couple degrees from knock at the top of 3rd. High IAT's and crap 91 octane...

My best 60' was a 2.155. That's a good point about temperature. I'm sure whether conditions play a large part too. According to Google, the DA at the track that night was 5920'.

are you brake boosting that thing?

Yeah. On a stock converter though. Which stalls at, what... Low 2000's? Not a ton of wind up there.

What he said.

needs bigger tires then lol

And a cam, and spray, and a converter, and turbo and... Yup. all in due time. I don't see any reason for me to go back to the track until I make some changes. 13.9 - 14.2 is where I'm at consistently with this setup. Plus it's only going to get hotter.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

Couple of Bonneville/GP buddie live in Phoenix/Chandler and they didn't bother to hit the track until December. Otherwise it was a waste of fuel.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

Brandon, hey. I just discovered the site again. Have not backtracked to see your progress but I see the 13.9. Good stuff, man. Makes me want one.:th_thumbsup-wink:

Been awhile so in case you want to peek, I am close to wrapping up the '59 Catalina floor fab: Old car body repair pic dump

Yeah. That sounds about right.

Thanks! Not a super impressive number, but at least I have a starting point. I'll be able to quantify any changes/improvements I make.

Welcome back buddy!! I scrolled through that whole pile. Nice work! Quite a variety too. That Catalina is a LOT of car.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

A buddy and I just went halfsies on a 1998 black SS for $400 ($200 each). No motor, but clean title. I wanted the wheels, trans, hood and front end. He got the rest. His want was the ZQ8 suspension.

My plan is to keep the wheels as spares, sell the front end, maybe paint and run the hood (but probably sell), and attempt to rebuild the 4l60e for profit. I see a lot more potential in rebuilding 60e's down here than 4t65e's.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Keeps getting better!

Make sure you buy the special torx bit for the pump if you want to open it up. Stripping one of those bolts out usually doesn’t end well.
