Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Blowing cold air!

What is a "fleet runner belt"? and why is it green? I want a green belt.............

It's just a heavy duty version. Something like two times the service life of a standard belt. Think school busses, cop cars, taxi cabs... I only got it because it was a wholesale closeout on RockAuto. $11 shipped compared to $19 over the counter at the parts store for a standard belt.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Blowing cold air!

Started working on the ZQ8 wheel fitment. Obviously the wheel hub bore of 70.3mm (2.768") wasn't going to work on the Ford 8.8 axle with a hub boss of 70.6mm (2.780"). I've seen people take the wheels and just router cut the lip off with a laminate trimmer bit and call that good. Since the studs on the rear axles weren't put in with surgical precision, I thought it would be wise to use the hub bore to actually locate the wheel and maintain concentricity. I have to figure out how to take 0.012" (0.006" per side) out of the that bore. I'm thinking a laminate trimming bit with an oversize follower on the back side.

According to my math, if I hit the part of the taper that is 75mm, I need the follower to be 4.4mm (0.173") larger per side. I should be able to sneak up on it by dropping the cutter deeper on the taper.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Blowing cold air!

Nevermind all that math. I may be overthinking this. It's only 6 thou a side. I'm going after it with some Harbor Freight spiral rolls.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Blowing cold air!

dont lean on that rod to hard or it snaps off oh so easy. i polished my heads with the same kit, only the larger one with like 20 rolls in it. i was like why they give ya two shafts? snap, oh thats why......lol

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

^^^ Noted.

It really only took a very light touch, and a couple of passes and I was in

Having a 255/50 will be nice

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

That's going to look good. Question is, do you have a spare tire that will fit it if need be?

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Blowing cold air!

Those are gonna look nice. If there's no room for your take offs, a GM old car guy could use them as rollers.

I think the factory doughnut will still work. Probably have to do the thing where, if I get a flat in the rear, I transfer the full size tire to the back and run the spare in the front due to the LSD. Or just catch a ride home and pick it up with the other truck and tow dolly. :th_biggrin3:

I'll keep that in mind. They'll probably end up as "core" returns at the pull-a-part though. My burnout days are far from over. I'll need them for trade in if I find a decent pair of mounted tires. Cheap thrills...

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

Got my hands on a TechII. Ran the ABS module bleed cycle. Maybe it's in my head, but I think with just that alone the pedal feels a ton better. Going to re-bleed all four corners and take it for a test drive. Tomorrow...

Put my "new" junkyard steering wheel on today. Not mint, but 100 times better than the old one.

Definitely worth the $11.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

that SEM brand interior paint for plastic works damn good if you looking to make that look even better. i did my steering wheel and air bag. been over a year now and its still holding up damn good.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

I've heard good things about SEM paint.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

Completed my set of ZQ8's today! UPS delivered number four. Ebay seller had them on sale for $91 ea. shipped (regular $104) so I actually bought two. I wanted to make a matched set, plus one of the three I had was a little rough. I'll put the two new ones on the left and the two used ones on the right. Time to do some tire shopping...

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

should be able to get a nice sticky tire on those, 16x8 should hook up well.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Working on a wheel/tire change

Well I found my tires. Not exactly what I wanted but for the price, I was willing to make concessions. Not exactly a steal either, but the used tire market here is slim. $120 for four Michelin 235/65/R16's. Not a matched set, but two pairs. About 60% tread. Good enough for me considering I don't drive in rain or snow. The bigger diameter should help with highway RPM as well. From 26" to 28". Another $60 - $80 to get them mounted and I should be in business. Worse case scenerio, if I don't like them I can turn them into smoke!

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - All my gauges work!

All I heard was junk.

120 ain't too bad. You're gonna feel that tire diameter change, hell that's half a second slower at the strip once the spinning stops. But it will drive a lot nicer. Hope no rubs. Will you mess with the speedo or recalibrate in your mind like in my big GP?

Shouldn't have any rubbing. (Fingers crossed) The wheels openings are quite large. I'll probably flash a tune to correct the speedo. It doesn't take long. Then all the trans functionality gets updated too. Shift points etc.
