Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

We have emissions testing in R.I. , it's coupled with 2 year overall safety inspection. Lights, brakes, rot etc. If we didn't the Feds wouldn't match our road construction monies :( They match BIG tho, 20M from us gets 80M from Feds (something like that). Not sure how some of you guys in other states get away with running cat deletes etc.? Must not need road & bridge money that bad??

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

We get money for roads through taxes when we buy gas and renew our registration.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

Here's my radiator support. Just some 1" square cut in half and welded to the floor of the core support.

As you can see, the bottom of the radiator nests over top of it very nicely. I fully welded it after the test fit.

A little 1/8" rubber pad on top of that post should be all the cushion it needs.

Radiator installed.

Then with the condenser installed.

And finally... Back to where I was over two weeks ago. Only this time everything fits (so far).

Don't think the pic loaded right, Scotty. Can't see anything except for a broken image icon...

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

Hmmm.. Ok.
Looks like it showed for BroncoBoy as well. Maybe it's because I'm at work and this PC is blocking stuff, lol. I'll check it out later.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

looking like a whole truck again is progress for sure. :D

Thanks man. Getting the core support (with a radiator) back on was a big milestone for me.

I've done very little research on bed mount turbos, but from what I've seen people seem to be making them work. More fab work, but you wouldn't be fighting for space. Something I'm very familiar with. That's a clean setup, for sure.

Cool progress :cool::th_thumb-up:

Thanks!

Update pictures...

Got the entire front end put back on.

Wrestled the hood back on (by myself). Things didn't exactly line up at first, and there's really no adjustment on the hinges. The back (at the hinges) looked good, but it tapered tight on the right and open on the left at the front. Wasn't sure what to do. Thought I was going to have to PM IDJ. Haha! Then it came to me... I loosened up all the bolts to the core support including the big ones that held it to the frame. A ratchet strap underneath to pull the whole front clip to the right. Tighten everything up, pop the strap, and voilà! Perfect(ish) body lines.

With the hood on, I was able to see how bad the evap/purge solenoid was going to hit. Had to borrow one of my kids Christmas toys.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it cleared. By over 3/16". Might as well be a mile!

Now that's how it sits. I keep putting it off, and I've said it before, but I really think the next step is wiring. Until I find something else to do. LOL

I have a good reason for putting the body back together before wiring. If I need to do some major vehicle repair, I'll need my garage back. There's a strong possibility I'll be replacing the trans in our minivan before the S10 is complete. At least with the front end back on, I can park it in the driveway without getting a letter from the HOA. At this point, I could even work on it in the backyard and just shut the hood when I was done for the day.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making things fit...

cant wait to see it on all 4's.

You and me both buddy. Getting closer!

Looking good.

Thanks! I'm just happy to not be tripping over the grill and bumper anymore.

I'm really tempted to completely de-pin the PCM plugs and individually route each component.

And that's what I did. Top left are the connectors that run direct and only to the PCM. Bottom left is trans plug and coolant temp sensor connected by a fusible link. Top right is a pile of connectors connected by a ground fusible link. Bottom right are the O2 sensor connectors connected by two fusible links.
