My next question is....why run ac any way? I know where you live gets hot, but it would be easier and cheaper to delete it. The money you spend on a welder could go towards turbo headers. Just a thought..

I don't think his goal is to turbo it anytime this year or even next.

I'd keep the AC if you want to drive it daily and be comfortable.

Dude! I don't think you understand how HOT it gets here. :th_flamingdevil: I will scrimp and save and cut corners in other places to have air conditioning. All in all, it shouldn't be too hard to make work. The engine was from a factory AC truck, and the S10 is a factory AC truck. I'm thinking a frame notch and some custom AC lines and I'll be in business!

Nailed it. Turbo will be at least a couple years off.

Even without turbo it will be substantially fast. S10's don't weigh nufin. Lol

I've been forbidden from either buying something without a working AC.

I have been EXTRA forbidden from removing a working AC from any vehicle.

And I'm in Michigan. Tuscon? For.get.it.

damn. you know my cars engine pulled that stunt knowing i had a replacement for it lined up. kinda like a scorn girlfriend lol

Yikes, that sounds not great. That's a 4.3L V6, right? That engine that couldn't seem to break 200 HP, while the 3800 did so seemingly with ease.

Yup.

Tried to do a brake stand just for grins. Nope! Not happening. Not sure if it's cause the motor is hurt, of if it's not even possible with a good engine. Either way, wasn't happening here! No guts.

From what I remember from my first girlfriend's S10 Blazer, and my brother buying the same vehicle, it was anemic even when they ran well. The 4.2L I6 that the put into the Trailblazer was better in every way. It made about 80 HP more, IIRC (been 10 years since I looked at one.)

Called a couple local salvage yards today looking for prices on a 2wd 4l80e. One place quoted me $1300 plus a $300 core fee. Other one was $1500 outright... For a used transmission!

Looks like I'm going to have to pull a rabbit outta my hat on this one. On the bright side, if I do sell my 4wd trans I know what kind of number I should be able to get.

Ebay or online junkyard auctions will be cheaper.

They are 300-500 for a used unit here, even a rebuilt one can be under $1,000 here. Pretty much anything 96+ will work.

The Ebay stuff is more inline price wise, but then they kill you on shipping. There's nothing withing 2000 miles of me.

Good looking truck, perfect candidate for a swap. Good friend of mine did an lq9/t56 swap in his s10 a couple years ago, found lots of weak points and bugs but it is finally getting pretty trouble free.

Thanks! Yeah, I do plan on having some issues here and there, but nothing too major. I don't see any reason why it couldn't (eventually) be just as reliable as any other 14-19 year old vehicle on the road today. With AC. :cool:

I was a little taken back when the first guy shot me that number. Delusions were confirmed after talking to the second guy. I kindly mentioned that a rebuild (with converter) was just over a grand. He said "Well, that's probably what you should do then buddy."

Okie dokie...

That is insane, look on car-part .com, you should be able to get one shipped for way less than that
