Procedure to program the BCM

I have to replace the Body Control Module on my wife's 2001 Prontiac Grand Prix SE due to issues with the DTR lights, A/C fan, and driver information center delays at startup.

Anyway, I understand that the unit needs to be reprogrammed after replacement. Can anyone explain the procedure to me.

Thanks in advance.

it should just be plug and play.

Wrong? Your BCM is also what has the VIN, mileage, etc... all that computer stuff in it. When I got mine fixed I had a reputable auto electric place diagnose it and they sent me to the dealer saying only the dealer could reprogram it.

I am not sure it is the BCM.. but with the fan, Daytime running lights, Driver information crap, and fan all starting at the same time, looking at the wiring diagram in the Chilton's manual, and looking at other entries in the thread I thought it was the only answer..

Now I am not sure... CRAP...

It could be the ignition switch I guess, She has had the key stuck problem also, which I just learned in the forum that I can yank out a solenoid to correct that issue. I am not sure if they could be related.

Not sure where to start now.. Replacing the BCM seems easier now, assuming there is no programming which I saw was required somewhere, not sure if it is just for the key fobs or if the BCM is replaced..

I am freaking lost again...

Ugg...

you dont need everything to match. the car will still run. i didnt have the correct VIN in my PCM ever.

The only programming I saw was for the door locks, interior lights and settings like those. All stufff that the owners manual tells you how to program.

You can enter this mode to kind fo test to see if the BCM is working. It is not a 100% real test, but still a test.

they also had to program it to recognize my remotes too. Keep in mind this is on a blazer, but it's essentially the same thing
