Problems changing spark plugs and wires

So, I decided its time to change out the plugs and wires on my car after 120k kms on it. I didn't think it would be this difficult. I got the front 3 done, however the back 3 seem nearly impossible. I mean IMPOSSIBLE.

Even then the front 3 were still very difficult. The main problem is the stock boots will not even come off. The front 3 had to be ripped out. No matter how much twisting and pulling I cant get the back ones off. Also the effing clips that hold the wires together are impossible to get apart. I am done 3 and would like to finish the job but gave up about an hour ago. Any one have any info on this?

Anything to make it easier. I dont want to have to bring it in somewhere just for this.

thanks

1. Push the metal boots toward the engine for more grip on the wire.
2. use a small screwdriver on the clips
3. Man the heck up .. use whatever tools you have available and you'll get it. :th_thumb-up:

Haha, I am probably going to break the back clip I don't even see any use for it. As for the boots that is what I have been doing. I think I will try again tomorrow. I don't know why these boots wont come off they are abnormal.

They have been heated a lot over the years.

I didn't tell you to do this..but a long screwdriver and hammer make short work of it. Only possible downside is if the plug seperated at the other end and fell in.

rock the engine forward by taking the dog bones off the front of the engine to the rad support, ratchet strap or rope to hold it. this will give about 3 more inches to work with and it makes a big difference to me as i have huge ass hands. you can now also see the plugs.

and i like to wear leather work gloves, they take the fear of bleeding all over when you rip it off and you hand goes flying into stuff. a good twist and pull usually does it. you get a better grip wearing gloves too.

i had the same problem as you i had to rip apart the wires piece by piece it took over an hour, i broke apart those clips too just use zip ties when your done

Wow just finished the back 3. Never want to do that agian took 3 hours just to do back 3!

3 hours, how'd that happen?

funny your not the only one.

when i got my car first thing i did was a tune up. the 4 and 6 cylinder plugs were a different brand and looked like crap, so who ever did its last tune up only changed 4 plugs, and quit.

at least you finished the job. your car has to run better now too.
