recently i went and started my car and for some unknown reason my headlights and dic just shut off? :th_wtf: I have no idea what caused this but after a few minutes all was fine, so i thought. As im driving down this dark backroad it all shuts off again and now im doing a 120kmh and everything went black. :th_shakinghead2: Does any1 have any ideas as too what is causing this?, or how i may go about fixing this. It just seems very unsafe too me. O and no i have not done any work to my car recently as im in camp. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance Joel

I almost forgot when lights and dic shutoff the heater and my cd player also shut off. Its like everything on that realy or fuse jus dies and then comes back to life

OMG! mine does the same thing, except its only when i turn the heater on, or the blower. im glad its not only my car

Experiencing a similar issue with my 2002. Car starts fine in the morning. Drive 5 minutes, drop kids off at school, start car back up and DRL and blower don't work. Drive for a few miles and they come back on. Things that come to mind are fuse issue, battery or alternator??

too bad people that actually know what it is dont speak up...ive had this problem forever too.. after awhile it just stops..but now my dic doesnt light up at all and my blower resistor went out..only works on high. but the dic is still working i can tell because when light is on it you can still see it, it just doesnt light up. but when i turn on the blower to high it will stop working, it will just keep going on and off yet all my headlights will work

Finally too my car in for these symptoms. It indeed was the ignition switch. After getting it replaced, all of my symptoms have been corrected. If you are experiencing similar symptoms I am willing to bet it is the ignition switch.

It's the ignition switch. The contacts get so badly scorched they eventually fail.
It usually starts with DIC/Blower speed/AC problems. In my case, the DRL relay was also going crazy.

I found two excellent links for this issue:

1. Diagnosis here:Sparky's Answers: 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Blower Inoperative, Erratic

2. Replacement procedure here:Sparky's Answers: 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, Changing The Ignition Switch

If you find these liks helpful, I'm sure "Sparky" would appreciate any contribution you could afford. (No, I am not Sparky, nor am I affiliated with the site.)

Ignition switch - GM Delco part number:26068757

All of my little electrical gremlins completely disappeared after replacing the switch.
To get the longest possible life out of the new switch, you could also install the Plug-N-Play ignition switch bypass relay.

Hope that helps!
