Problem with 1st to 2nd

8bit Chaos

Hi i recently bought a 2004 gp gtp and it has a late shift from 1st to 2nd and i have been doing research on it and everyone is saying the PCS is bad, but i was wondering if there was anything else it could be and if i should just take it to a dealer or shop and have them look at it first?

Is it intermittent or 100% occurring? If 100% and doesnt happen at any other shift, I'd check out your accumulator for the 1-2 springs. May be a broken spring or blown seal or something. That is if 2nd stays strong once it does engage. If not, it could be more serious.
Pcs usually happens when hot, or intermittent. Unless you have a code for it and something is really wrong with it.

It only does this for 1st to 2nd and 2nd stays strong but should i see if a dealer can check it out to?

Well does it always do it? The accumulator issue is easy to check out, probably more than half the active members around here have done it. If you're an average diy'er or better you can do it yourself.
And if you find nothing wrong, bolt it back up and look further, maybe taking it somewhere if you don't get any more help.

The first thing I'd do is to get a shift kit from Intense. These trans work so much better with them installed, and you can avoid a few problems further down the road, such as the p1811. And it makes a bit more fun to drive.
