Problem installing SC Belt

Just finished repairing the SC coupler and can't get the SC Belt to go back on. I have the tensioner as far as it will go and even tried prying it over the tensioner pulley. Looks like I need another 1/4" of slack, but there is no where to get it from. Anyone have a trick for getting that belt back on?

It is usually hard to get on, make sure that the belt is on all of the other pulleys properly by keeping an eye out for the belt skipping over grooves.

Hmm, never tired it that way, I can see the logic tho. A smooth pulley possibly easier to get on. I put the belt on the S/C last....My belt goes on 1 rib at a time, so I'm thinking yours is the same. You just go to work it on bro. But there is 1 other possibility, your tensioner might be bad, if you try everything and just can't get it on you might wanna try that option. Good luck!!

I do it that way as well, putting it on the tensioner last and its still a very tight fit and sometimes a juggling act trying to get it the belt on there and releasing the tension on the tensioner at the same time.

Ive tried countless times putting it on the supercharger last and its just near impossible. So I always use the tensioner for the last bit. What I would check is that the rest of the belt is in all the grooves properly and routed properly. If so you'll just have to work it on there. Be sure you have the right belt size too, though it sounds like you do.

I thought it might be the belt as well so checked against the stock one I removed and it was the same. Guess it's just stubborn or the tensioner isn't going as far as it should. Guess Pontiac wanted it to stay on there tight. Love my car though so it's worth the hassle

Looks like the belt was too short even though it was the one that Goodyear calls for so I'm presuming someone before me changed a pulley or something. Thanks to everyone that offered help. It's appreciated.

well you might want to figure out which pulley is different if thats the case (the old belt was probably just stretched out..) but a guess you could have lieka 3.5 inch tensioner or idler instead of a 3 inch one...

That's what I was thinking as well, but haven't checked the pulley size yet. From what I could determine from the Goodyear site there isn't going to be a belt that will fit that setup. I did have to stretch the heck out of the stock belt, but you can definitely feel the boost after the coupler change.
