• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

as the title states, i think its time to part ways.
i went to visit my dad with my 5yo son for thanksgiving, car ran fine on the almost 100mile trip there except for some slight lack of acceleration occasionaly from 65mph. on the trip back however, i got 35miles from my dads house when the car SHUT OFF on the highway. i pulled over, put it in park, and started it back up, only to hear an awful metalish clanging grinding noise coming from the engine. didnt start hard or any different from normal, just awful noise. it still moved, still shifted fine thru all gears. i did not drive it, had it towed to my dads mechanic so he could look at it. before i left i checked all fluids and they were fine and full. the mechanic said it seemed to run slightly better with cyl 2 disconnected, and he said it sounds like something deep inside. im thinking oil pump **** the bed, but thats alot of work to get to it and it might not even be that. i should mention that there are no codes either. when it shut off every light in the dash came on, but went back to normal after restarting.

any thoughts on what in judas rockin priest happened to my engine? car is basically stock, just a zzp pcm (to eliminate my P0420 code cuz i needed a sticker this year and i refuse to buy a cat) and a cai. plugs wires and normal stuff was redone this year during the summer as well. body has about 145k trans probably 60k and engine probably 100k.

I had the rubber separate from the balancer and it made a horrible, what sounded like metal to metal sound at idle, but if I brought the rpm's up slightly and held it would go away. Just make sure it something as simple as that.

well, i brought up the rpms slightly when it happened and the noise didnt go away, it seemed to get faster

Try removing the accessory belt and running it for a short moment. Maybe a pulley or the A/C compressor locked up. If the noise goes away without the belt on then you know to look at one of the things that spin on the outside of the motor.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that you spun a bearing somehow. Check out youtube for grand prix 3800 rod knock to get an idea of the sound.

Wow that thing is cooked!! Sorry man. I read your chat 100 from the JY is lame but, if you dont want to deal with parting it out maybe its the best option
