• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Premium fuel required!?

The really strange thing is that our gas prices are much lower than the neighboring states. So, we get cheap gas and we don't even have to get out of the car. :D

But they nail you with other taxes elsewhere. Property taxes and personal taxes are high there.

Yeah, property taxes suck because all our school administrators are corrupt, and we spend way too much on education that is not working (see Nations Report Card - The Nation's Report Card - National Assessment of Educational Progress - NAEP), but that's a rant for another forum :th_shakinghead2:. Personal taxes are not that bad, and about the same as most states. We even have some areas where they lower sales tax to 3.5%. Car insurance used to be insane, but it is slowly coming down (or maybe I'm just getting older :th_sick1:)

All I know is that my uncle said personal taxes were killing him so much he couldn't afford to retire in NJ. He moved to PA.

He must have been making a lot of money. NJ taxes are tiered. If you are in the middle range, you pay 5 or 6 percent. If you are in the upper range (over 500,000) you pay closer to 9 percent. PA is a flat 3% for any income. Rural PA is a good place to retire.

TN (my home of record, since I'm in the military) has no state taxes and I get the benefits of living in a state that has income taxes. :th_king-evil:

I don't know what he was making. Probably 6 figures, but definitely not over 500k.

None the less, he moved.

I just barely bought my car i got an 07 grand prix and my gas mileage sucks as well. the only tip i have is that u fill up at night or early in the morning when its not so hot because the heat expands the gas therefore ur not getting the amount ur paying for. also, see what kind of gas u use because arco is crap i only put chevron premium in mine and my mpg is 24 now compared to 19.5

Underground tanks should be the same temp all day I would assume.

While I know that fuel does expand with temperature, the tanks are underground and well insulated. The sun's rays have no effect.

Regardless of how hot it is outside or what time of day, the metal part of the handle is always pretty cool when I pump the gas.

Also, even if the fuel expanded when it got hot outside (which I doubt it does), this would not improve your fuel mileage. Your engine would still burn the same amount of fuel. You would just be getting more/less fuel for the same money.

The fuel does expand once it heats up. You never notice this because of the evap system on the cars equalizes the pressure when it expands and contracts.

On older cars, you'll hear the air rush in/out when you loosen the fuel cap.

My 95 Camaro would do that all the time when the tank was very low (under 1.5 gallons in tank)

It is safe to say that when you run higher octane fuel, you will get worse gas mileage (unless you have a tune other than stock).

Further, I feel ya on the bad gas mileage - my 97 GTP only gets about 21-23 MPG mixed city and hwy driving. It would be nice to get the 25-26 MPG like the other fellas on here.... but I'm working on that.

Good Luck!

exactly how will u be working on that???? do you have any tips for increasing fuel economy cuz my gp sucks ass on gas.

my o6 gt gets 21.5mpg on premium, and gas is more expensive in canada, which makes no sense since we export most of our oil to the U.S.the guy at the dealership told me that i would experience knocking if i didnt use premium.

Yeah we get royally screwed at the pumps :th_depressed:

Well I always was told to run no less then 93 in a Forced induction car/truck. I did goof up and ran 87....Also ran 93 with 10% ethanol not thinking it would hurt...After about a month I threw a misfire code! My spark plugs was BAD! Im not saying that did do it! But I think it had ALOT to do with it. So I stopped using the one with ethanol. I usally can pull bout 350miles outta my tank on 93. And I go 75-80 on the freeway and I do get into the gas sometimes.
