Preferred way to accelerate w/o wheelspin

Gents and Gals:

My 07 GT has been in the family now for about 5 months. Never have owned an S/C engined car before, I am still searching for the best way to pull away from a standstill without one wheel going up in smoke.

Mind you I drive my vehicles with kid gloves most of the time, but as we all know sometimes the need arises to move out. The 95 SHO I had 2 cars ago was good to go as long as you had a bit of a rolling start.
My 01 Dodge Durango was AWD, and weighed 5000 pounds. With its meager 230hp and AWD, wheelspin was not an issue.

Now we come to the GP and its supercharged 3.8. I was rolling away from a light the other day, and was up to 20 or so before I hammered it. Immediately, I lost left wheel traction, then it caught and the right one broke loose. I decided to keep my foot into it to see if it would settle down and hook up.

It finally did, but not with out noise and fan fair which I would have liked to avoid. Possibly the fact that I'm still running the OEM Michelin MXV4 Energy tires that seem to be long on wear and short on grip.

Thanks in advance for any input. Don

roll into it. if you just peg the pedal to the floor you dont know how to drive anyway. you should chirp them just a little bit. if there is no chirp, youre not launching hard enough.

The OE Michelin MXV4's are not good on grip your right about that. I've had the same issue with my 04' GTP

well i cant really say for your car seeing as how its an 07 but with my 03 gtp, if i just hammer it off the line, it will get ****ty times. i ran down the track a few times about 2 months ago and found the best way is to leave the traction control ON, and footbrake up to about 2500 rpm, then when it hits green, i ease into it slowly then almost right after the tree stand, i hammer it with just enough tire chirp, and it pulls good the rest of the way

roll into it...

tires have alot to do with it.

quick, firm, "controlled" throttle response well net good acceleration from a dig. just dont over do it.

traction control is holding you back.

traction control pulls fuel and rahtards timing....pull the ABS fuse and get some sticky tires, youll launch that pig right

Gentlemen:

Thanks to those who offered constructive comments. Agreed that the extra power supplied by the S/C along with the FWD platform both necessitate a bit more finesse when heading for a full power run.

My SHO ony has 220hp and 215 pounds of torque, and was a pretty good runner in its day. I will have to practice a little more on the different driving style required by the GP. IMO, if it had AWD that would be the cats meow. Then, you could stand on the go pedal from the word go, and the car would simply go like a banshee.

What I do is hold the brake at about 2 grand, give it gas...keep it held in "1" and then give it about half throttle or until you almost feel the tires break loose...then once you are sure you have a decent amount of traction or close enough to it...shift it quickly into "D".

That's how I nabbed my 1.98 60' on street tires...oh and TCS OFF!!
