Power Windows

So my gf has been driving my 97 SE for a while now. She gives me a call and tells me the front driver side window went down by itself. So I unplugged the connection from the motor. Cool right? Now today she gives me another call and tells me the back driver side window did the same thing. What the hell is going on??

Nope. This is a common problem on these cars. It's your window regulator 99% of the time. Usually you can see the broken cable when you take the panel off. If the connector came loose, the window wouldn't just drop.

That's the thing. The connector isn't loose from the motor. I unplugged it because the window will go down even if I press the up switch. The only way I could keep it up is to press the switch, while the key is in ACC mode, until the window reached the top. Then I took the key out and unplugged it. So now I have to look at the regulator again smh. I've been changing regulators on this car too much.

If you've been eating regulators then I'd make sure all the channels are clean and then lube them with a DRY lube, like graphite spray. A silicone based lube will work but it attracts dirt and then gums up, putting you right back where you started.

And check the wipes at the top edge of the door as well. It seems that the slightest bit of resistance on these things causes the regulators to die. When I had my door panels all off for the interior rebuild I lubed/cleaned all of the channel I could feel, some was in the door and could not be seen, but could feel it. All 4 windows work like a champ and are actually faster going up than when I got the car.

And once you do enough regulators you should be able to do a door in about 20 min taking your time, lol.. Gets kinda old after a while I know.

Ok will do..thanks guys for your input. Fordman you're so right about installing in 20 minutes. It's embedded in my brain lol. I taped off the rear driver door for now. The switch works going down but no power going up. As for the front driver window..I'm still curious as to why the window would suddenly go down by itself when the regulator is intact. Hmmm😕

So the window motor will roll the window down all on it's own? Without pressing the button? If so, then I'd be checking either the window motor or the master switch on the drivers door. Might be a short in one of them. My gut says it's an issue with the master switch if it's doing it all by itself. These motors usually just work or they don't.
