Power window parts on ebay?

Greetings,

I already said hi over in the intro section, so I guess I will start with some general questions.

First, I need to replace the power window regulator on both rear door windows.

Saw a ton of them on eBay. My questions are:

Is there one brand that is better than the other?
Which sellers are good?

Obviously I dont want to pay 370.00 from GM for them. Although I do love OEM parts.

Thoughts?

Also, Questions on my 98 GTP.

What engine is it? Is there more than one?
Tranny? Were there different options?

Thanks

Craig

Welcome over Craig. I can answer a few of these questions for you. I personally have never had to buy windows parts on ebay, but to me they all look pretty much the same, but look out for parts by Morad Parts Company, because they'll have good cheap ****. Before you do that though what exactly is wrong with your window regulator. If you're just having issues rolling up you window check out the power window switch fix write up in the "How To" section, and try that before you spend any money.

97-03 had three engines: 3.1L V6(SE Trim), 3.8L V6 N/A(GT Trim), and 3.8L V6 Supercharged(GTP Trim). I'm not sure if they all did, but 97-99 Grand Prix SE's did have a 3.8 N/A engine in it. I don't really know about the trans though, but I think that the SE and GT had a seperate trans from the GTP, but they're pretty much the same exact thing, all automatic. Hope this helped you a little bit.

For the power window stuff, I would stick with used GM stuff. Much better than any crap you will find new on ebay. Ed Morad is the man for parts. Email him and just tell him what you need. He will hook you up.

Thanks everyone.

The power windows in the rear doors both broke the plastic piece for the cable, (the plastic junk which is supposed to allow the cable end to snap into and pulls the window up) which unknowingly when you try the motor after it breaks, the cable ruins the plastic spool that the cable winds onto.

I will check out Morad and see what he has.

Thanks again. :D

97-00 gp se's got the 3100 and 3800 there's a few 00's and one 01 here in florida thats an se with the 3800 and in 97 the 3100 got the 4t60e as well as the 3800 got it to but in 98 on they went to the 65e and the L67 got the 65e hd.

Though not for a Grand Prix, I will share my experience with the one Ebay regulator I've purchased.

I purchased one of the Ebay window regulators for the driver's door of my Grand Cherokee. The motor itself was noticably smaller than the Bosch original, everything else looked pretty much the same. I got it all installed and it worked fine. On the first drive, I noticed a considerable wind noise and upon further investigation found that my window was rolling up about 1/4" too short from seating all the way into the channel. The bracket attached to the regulator's cable was rolling all the way up against the upper pulley, so there was no means for any adjustment. The regulator was held onto the inner door with 4 bolts and my only option was to redrill new mounting holes 3/8" above the original holes to raise the entire assembly. After that, it worked fine with no other problems, but it definitely was not as easy as just swapping them out as it should have been.

I would recommend checking with Morad also just to avoid any headaches.
