Power steering only working to the right

I have a 98 gtp and i just changed the inner tie rod and it was fine the whole way to work when i went to leave work i didn't have power steering to the left only to the right. I don't know what would cause this. Is my rack bad? I also noticed i have quite a bit of movement in my motor mounts when i put it in reverse and hold the brake and give it a little gas, not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Please help I hate driving my minivan.
 


So i'm probably gonna end up replacing my rack and pinion. Does anyone know where to get a cheaper new/rebuilt one? Cheapest one i could find was $200. If not i'll probably get one out of the junkyard.
 
Yes, it sounds like the rack is toast, assuming the fluid is full.

Hit up Ebay. I just got a genuine AC Delco Unit w/ Magnasteer for $240 shipped for my 00GT. Price one of those at the dealer and that $240 is CHEAP. They want close to $950 for one. Even GMpartsdirect wants more than the $240.

And from what I've been told use OEM on this one (delco). Also be sure to check if you have the Maganasteer option or not, as they are 2 different racks. The non-magansteer verisions are way cheaper.

I personally would advise against a junkyard rack. Most of these cars are going to have the same, or more mileage on them by now and will have the same issues. Once you pull the old rack out and install the new one you will see why you don't want to risk having to do it again if the one you got is crap. But hey, it's your ride ya know.
 
I'm pretty sure i don't have magnasteer because its still hard to turn just sitting still. I'll probably get one from the junkyard just to save some money i found one for $65 compared to $200 that's pretty good. I doubt i'll find one with more than 195,000 miles on it in the junkyard but you never know.
 
It will be hard to turn sitting still if the rack is messed up. Plus, you have the friction of the tires that are not rolling to overcome as well.

Take a look down between the drivers side edge of the trans. and the brake booster down towards the rack. If you see an electrical connection coming from the rack w/ 2 wires on it then you have Magnasteer.
 
i do have magnasteer and the rack i got from the junkyard doesn't. Can i still put the reg one in?
