Power steering fluid disappeared.

95 GTP. I was driving today and the power steering was whining louder than usual, when I checked it it was almost empty. It was full the other day. No signs of leaks. I added more fluid and took it for a ride and went lock to lock with the steering and no leaks.
 


it leaked out from somewhere. park over cardboard. could be the rack boots leaking or the pump, or the rubber line split. hard to say. look for a wet spot.
 
I pulled my engine and the pressure supply line got loose and I didn't notice... All of the fluid to the ground in less than 2 seconds :P That made some terrible, terrible sounds
 
High pressure line is new. After I got it home I checked under the car and nothing was dripping. Added fluid and went lock to lock and no leak on the ground. This isn't a few drips here and there this is the contents of the reservoir.
 


the boots wont hold a res or two or three's worth of fluid. most of the time if the boots are wet theres your leak. blown seals, time for a new rack.

It looks like it is coming from the rack. Right by where the hose go into it. How hard is this job to change the rack.

I have done them on Citations and Cavaliers when I was a GM mechanic. Can't be much different. I had a little problem, as I was letting the car down the jack slipped and punched a small hole in the oil pan. Bad day today.
 
Don't even try the jb weld 2 part metal fix stuff. (The kind in a tube that you cut and mix with your hands, like a clay)
At work one of my bosses fixup cars had an aluminum pan that had a crack from an accident. Not a huge crack, just like 2.5 inches long. We sandblasted the whole length of the crack on both sides, cleaned well, and used the jb weld on both sides. Let it fully cure before reinstalling, but still leaked like a sieve.
If its steel, you can weld a patch if you're skilled enough. Or go to a junkyard and get one, or find the best deal on a new one.
