power drop

alright fellas. need some more help here.

I bought the power drop mating harness from ZZP to power my gauges. i went looking behind the glovebox and couldnt find the power drop harness. i looked along the big fat wire harness sandwiched in the plastic u channel that runs directly behind the glovebox, but i couldnt feel anything taped up in there.

does anyone have some pics or anything else to help me find this thing?

Sorry Toasty. I recently purchased the same thing, but haven't done anything with it yet. I have seen pictures...somewhere. IIRC you have to remove the glovebox to find the power drop. However, I figured I would try just feel around behind the GB and pull it down...it is a drop after all

So you removed the glovebox and you still can't find it?:th_depressed:

I think DuBob posted the pic? Find the bundle of wires that goes to the back of the fuse box in the dash and follow that and you should find, like 5 or 6 inches from the fuse box, a white tag wrapped around the three power drop wires. There is a little electrical tape that holds the power drop connector to the rest of the wires. Pull the tape off and then the connector and wires will be free. But look for the white tag. And yes, pull down the glove box first. Good luck with it. It took me a while to find it too. The factory does a good job of hiding it, but trust me, it is back there.

i'll have to look again. i found some big white multipin male connector that isnt plugged into anything, but no power drop yet. maybe i'll have to remove the panels under the dash and look upwards at it. feeling around, i couldnt feel anything, and the only white tag i saw was a sticker wraped around the whole bundle, with a date and p/n no drop.... any idea which fuse powers that power drop?

i'll be frustrated if it isnt there.

The tag might not even be visible depending on how it was taped to the rest of the wires. You might need to feel around for it and hopefully you'll get the tag or the power drop connector. I remember the first time I searched for the power drop I gave up and a few weeks later I finally tried again and found it. The power drop connector is the same color as the ZZP connector, so it won't stand out in that black abyss in the dash. The power drop tag explains what the three wires are. Just keep trying, I began thinking mine wouldn't have it either but it was on the wiring diagram, so I knew it had to be there.

all I can say about that picture is please don't use the scotch locks (those blue connectors) they are not a good connector at all, and I have seen many fail

This is true. I just wanted to show him the power drop. But he has the ZZP connector so he should not have to worry about that.

woah wait what wire diagram did you see it on? i've been in and out up and down all of my alldata wiring schematics and i dont see it

It was in my Helms manual. I can't remember what I was looking for specifically but I saw the three wires for an "auxiliary power drop connector". It has its own fuse "PWR DROP" in the instrument panel fuse block. I have a page number from my 1998 Helms manual which probably isn't useful but page 8A-19-0 is the page for Electrical Diagnosis for Accessory Power and the wiring diagram on that page shows it. Too bad I don't have a scanner otherwise I'd post it up. It even has a table to troubleshoot the power drop connector.

hmmm.. I dont remember seeing PWR DROP in the fuse box....

My power drop was hidden pretty well. It was there but pushed back pretty deep and really far over to the right side.

did you reach it from where the glovebox is, or did you reach it from under the dash?
