I've used various kinds of tire shine and none have destroyed my tires. If someone is telling you tire shine will destroy your tires they are telling you something they heard and just repeating it.

All you have to do is search "Is tire shine bad for my tires" and you will get tons of answers.

Yeah something like that I was told certain ones depending how they are made up will dryout/dry rot the tire. Thats why i was wondering and I've seen others talking about other types or something.

As that post says tire shine doesn't dry rot the tire, it just makes the dry rot more visible.

It's probably from old school thinking. I bet older tire shine technologies did just that and people think it is still the case. I run into issues like that with older relatives all the time. They will argue something with me about how such and such did this, and I have to explain to them that times have changed and everything isn't exactly like it used to be. LOL

Like I said, I have used various tire shines on many tires and have never had one issue with dry rot.

Today at work, a record was set for the most unsafe vehicle to ever be driven into the lot. Driven, not towed. Right lower ball joint was ready to fall off, both front springs were broken in multiple places and the thing was as far down as possible. Worst of all, 4 of the lug nuts on the LF wheel were only on a few threads, the 5th lug nut fell off in the parking lot as the customer drove the car in(found it in the lot after getting the car in the shop) My boss was going to take it for a drive this morning, the customer just said he wanted a clunking diagnosed. He backed it up and was like, yeah not driving this thing. Another mile at most, and all those lugs would be gone and a crash inevitable. Who left them loose, idk. I don't believe it's ever been at our shop before. Also the fuel filter rusted and was leaking, bad exhaust leak, and completely rusted out. Ford Taurus btw.

...and I'm pissed my car is pinging when it is cold started for the first two minutes of driving...and people drive hunks of junk like that.

Blue, I'll start on the rust work as soon as your check clears! Mandatory health care broke the camel's back. Sounds like the Tore-ass crept up just in time, hard to believe they even wanted it fixed. Beats pedaling I bet.

Russo- Up until ArmorAll, some young people used a cup of sugar in ten cups water. Not that you should. Sidewalls were smooth then. You crave any more useless info, let me know.

Well we haven't done the work yet, got a nice parts list to tell the customer. I doubt he'll do it. And the rust repair on that car is an amount that would not clear my bank lol.

In situations where a car is literally not safe for another mile on the road the customer can still refuse the work and drive off can't they?

Well it has happened. Many times, we write on the work order very clearly that it is dangerous and the customer refused the work. No lawsuit if they crash and kill a family of 4 on the freeway.

It protects us for at fault, I guess if we didn't want then to drive it off, we could just get a pry bar and pop the worn out part apart so its undrivable

I've seen people drive in with rotors that were worn down to the fins, rust was the only thing left of the body and wire showing all around on tires. "hey.. I have no money, can you fix me up for $50?"

That family of 4's relatives would sue your pants off. Not sure if the rule is still valid over here or not, but if they deem the car unsafe, your not driving away.

Well they would have to sue for not forcing the customer to pay us to fix his car, and/or not holding his car hostage until he does.

And that just gives dirty mechanics reasons to lie to force you to spend money.
