Technically the name Roloc refers to the 3M disc attachment method only.
If using 3M bristle discs for gasket surface cleanup on castings, be aware that grades for aluminum are available and are yellow in color. FWIW, I normally use a razor blade very lightly, Scotch Brite by hand with WD40, wipe clean, dress with flat file or sanding block if needed. Just because I've done it that way all my life is no indication that I'm right though, seriously.

Thats pretty cool, nice link I skimmed it but those are pretty darn neat. I'll try razors and tooth brush and brake clean and go from there. I'm just debating if i want to plug the coolant passages in the LIM and delete the EGR on it

I don't really like using rolec on aluminum. I keep a worn out one around for aluminum if I really need to use it. Worn out ones are a lot safer and leave the surface smoother. Also a higher speed but lighter strokes are better for keeping it smooth.
Oh, and I don't let any of the dust go into ports for intake, coolant, etc.

Dayum they don't make em like they used to! Thats a LOT. I ain't seen past a quarter mil ever but currently at 217 and climbing fast. That the Dodge that has the horn button NOT on the airbag?

Haha you remember that? No not that truck, that one had just under 200k iirc.
The truck pictured at almost 383k is a chevy 2500. Can't remember the engine but it's one of the v8's, bigger than the 5.3. I can always tell a chevy IP from that generation, common design.

Ha. Gents I promise I worked in a GM dealer shop from 00-06 lol. But I'm pushin 5 at the rod shop and pfft all that crap from this century runs together now, in my mind. Couldn't care less. Now if I can't name a 65-75 GM cluster, thats pitiful.
Man I was trippin over that firebird at the shop today scotty, headlights are gonna shine on ankles like fogs its so low. Hood at maybe yer knee!

i watched that same cluster climb to 175.000 in my 97 gmc. sold it and last i heard its still on the road. i could only wonder what its up to now.

Tracking number is 18436572 buddy. Hell I thought I was the only one old enough to have to squint at the dipstick. Oil level depends on which eye I close.

no i can see it, its super clean and clear on the stick, none of that nasty black oil like the old one would have soon after a oil change cause it was nasty inside.

Yeah it took awhile to find somebody who ships low flying birds. They told me today the dyno sheet was like 680 which is nice for NA JY BS.
When I pull the 455 dipstick and have to hold it in sunlight... now that makes me squint bcuz sun, but I gits a grin offa that. Only gets a couple changes a year.

Yeah he does. So what, billions of mechanics love them because of what they do. When I say finesse, I mean you need to pay attention and have a clue. I've used only the brown ones which are more abrasive than you should use on aluminum. If you decided, you can wear a low spot or hole in something, however you'd have to try.
James dislikes them because after about 50 years of them being used, most car manufacturers said they were causing bearing issues because the dirt and grime were ending up in the bottom end. This is from someone not taking a moment and covering areas like the lifter valley while doing a LIM job and cleaning the heads.
