Not too bad, there's a link for changing the 4th shaft while it's in the car and it's basically the same thing. Getting the snap ring off of the input shaft is pretty fun, but other than that it's pretty straight forward. Lemme see if I can find the link...

I'm essentially getting tired of waiting for the weather to get better. And all I want to so is drive my car. I have a 'new' trans waiting for it but it still has 2,93s. So I'm basically contemplating dishing out the money and getting it done at a shop then swapping the gears later

So I am getting a rotten egg smell when I stop at lights, no smell when I turn the car off. I noticed some black soot on the ground behind the tailpipe from cold starts and it seems to be growing. Only thing I can figure is that I am running to rich, but the logs are showing that I'm actually spot on for fuel.
I ordered a new 3.5FPR, I have new injectors, and a new fuel filter I'll throw in this weekend I guess. Car is fine, pulls great no matter the throttle amount. WTF
I also ordered a new cabin filter and while I'm in there I'm going to fix the recirculation motor.
I have no vacuum leaks, idle is smooth, plugs seems fine...so wtf.
If this doesn't work out...I'm going back to stage 2, selling the downpipe and putting the stock FPR back in.

The cat probably isn't fouled yet, but I sniffed around the engine bay and could not figure out where the smell is coming in from to the intake of the vents.
Everything else is good, no burned off coolant, turbo boosts, no oil burning...this is baffling. My fuel MPGs are normal.
Oh and smell is at the front of the car, nothing in the rear engine on or off. Exhaust is leak free, I looked around last time I did the oil about a week ago.

Why not swap the gears on the new transmission before putting it in? It'd make it a LOT easier. Gravity will be on your side for sure. I'd just screw the bell housing down tot he bench and took the side cover off from there. Not sure what the newish trans is out of, but it'd be a good time to put in hardened GXP chains and a hardened 4th shaft while you were at it.

Because if I have a shop put the trans in they wont swap gears lol id do that when I got the car back.
I still don't have a total plan on how I'm getting this trans in the car lol I'm just trying to figure out my options

Why not swap the gears into the new trans before taking it to the shop? Really if you are going to undertake changing the gears while it's in the car you might as well just change the gears then put the transmission in yourself. It's one of those jobs where it might be a little more work, but it's a LOT less frustration. It may be more work, but the work is easier overall.
