Post Whoring - 5.5.1 - We have a turd in the punch bowl



I mowed my grass on Saturday. I woke up to snow on Sunday. It was gone by Sunday afternoon. Weather forecast says possibility of snowfall on Friday.
 
I was in my yard pulling stumps Saturday. Woke up to driving snow Sunday. Got about four inches of accumulation on the grass. Was gone by midday and I was grilling out in a T-shirt Sunday evening. Then it started to rain. Snowing on and off all day. After the sun went down it started sticking to the road. Half inch down. Gonna be in the mid 40s tomorrow and more snow Wednesday.

Hello everyone! I am still alive, just have been crazy busy. Still have the SS for now. We have been throwing around the idea of moving on to something else due to it starting to have some issues that no one can seem to figure out. Drop down to a LTZ or an Explorer (which are stupid expensive).

So yeah, that's that.

It's been doing it for a year or so. But it's has a VERY intermittent shifting problem. Sometimes when you come to a stop, it's acting as if it isn't downshifting and when you go to take off, it will move slowly like it doesn't know what gear its in, and then bam it finds it slams and it moves forward. I've taken it to 2 shops and even left it with the one place for a week to test drive daily and they could never get it to act up. That's how intermittent it is. Sometimes it will do it 5+ times a day, then it will go weeks without doing it. No certain triggers: summer, winter, city, cold or hot trans temp...nothing. Trans is flawless otherwise.
On a Impala forum I'm on someone else posted about the same issue and people suggested the pressure solenoids, but OP never replied again so not sure if he ever got it fixed.
I've been in contact with TEP in fort wayne and all they want to do is rebuild the whole trans.
I guess it's to the point now where we sell it and hope it doesn't act up on a test drive OR start throwing parts at it. But since the shops can't pin point it, it's hard. I think next week I may call a few places and say I want the solenoids replaced, give me a quote.
I really like the car and enjoy it. I'm afraid I will really regret selling it.
 
Our impala has done that identical thing for almost 2 years now. Obviously don't know for sure what it is.

Was thinking the common input clutch piston, but that causes a neutral at stops and slams into gear. This is like partially engaged at stops, then hardly fully engages. Don't know if the seal on that piston can cause that, maybe.

Had a family dinner after work on Friday, and this was part of my fun drive home......

"Today's Dick was in a white F-150. He rode my ass on the freeway round-a-bout, then as I merged onto the freeway and was signalling to go into the left lane, he cut through the median to get into the left lane quicker. I was watching him, so saw him coming. I honked and flashed my lights at him. He didn't like that so he slowed down and kept me from passing. Wow! Didn't see that coming! I laid low as I knew where this was going. I saw a Cadillac coming up in the left lane, so I figured I would let the Caddy push the F-150 out of the way. I was then able to get back in the left lane and pick up the pace. The F-150 continued on in the left lane; no surprise there. I guess he feels he is above the "Keep Right Except To Pass" law. He got off at the next exit, but waited until the last minute to get into the right lane, cutting in front of another motorist. Thanks for the amusing few minutes there Dick!"






This makes me want to get another camera to mount in the rear somewhere.
 
So I started playing with an idea and I need some input. It's only electrical tape since I'm not 100% sure I want to actually paint this stuff. Opinions?
