Possibly looking for a new car

Ok, so my 99 gt has been giving me a bunch of trouble lately and i've been thinking about getting rid of it and finding a new car. But I wanted some different opinions first about what would be the best thing to do.

Background:
The car is a white 1999 GT coupe with about 120k miles on it. About a year and a half ago my engine died so it has a factory refurbished one in it, so technically the engine has about 12k miles on it and the rest of the car has 120k. That was pretty expensive and is probably the only real thing making me want to hold on to it. But then again, would something like that add to the price i could ask for it?

Im expecting to have to replace the transmission in a few months and I've been losing coolant which i read up on here and found that it could possibly be a pretty costly repair. I just can't see myself spending a couple thousand on this car again.

So if i decide to sell, is there anything decent for sale around the 5000 range or maybe more like the 8000 range if I save up a little longer. And do you guys think its worth selling and trying to find something used or just spending the money and fixing what I have? I dont want to end up with another car full of problems

Agreed. If those are your only problems then do it and keep enjoying the car. You never know, you could get another car that DOESN'T have a "new" GM motor in it and be sitting in the same situation but with a car payment on top of it.

Keep the car and put a used tranny in it and keep going
 
Personally I would hold on to it, i'm sure that engine was a big investment but now you know it's gonna be totally fine. You already know all of the issues you face with your car, and you don't want to pick up someone else's turd that you know nothing about.

And no, I would not pay more than the value of the car because it has a newer engine with fewer miles. For the reason I stated above, I know nothing else about the condition of the vehicle.

not everyone can just fix there own ****.
so yeah man u could sell it. get what u can. but yeah u could get a used tranny etc.
either way.

i plan on selling mine eventually and getting something nicer for summer, something 5 speed, possibly a V8 or Import. and then havin a winter beater.
but until then im gonna leave my GP GTP as she sits and just enjoy it.
 
all things car related are fairly simple once you get down to it. everyone can fix their car given that they do a little research before just taking things apart.

Assuming they own tools.
Almost always though you can buy the tools for the job, cheaper than paying someone to do the job. Then you still have the tools when you are done.
 
yeah I don't really own any tools and I dont exactly have a place to tear into my car without homeowners sending us a letter
