Possible tranny problem?

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT. Just tonight I started having this problem. When i would take off from a stop light and the car would shift into 2nd it like jerked the car, and same into 3rd. Then going into 4th it was fine. It has done this once before a couple months ago and went away and now its back. Any problems with my transmission? I appreciate the comments

These transmissions are 100% controlled by the pcm (computer) and without scanning for codes and even better scanning trans data while it is going on it is hard to say. There are a lot of common problems that can cause this but without any data you are just shooting in the dark. If you dont have means to scan the car it would be best to have the car diagnosed by a reputable diagnostic guy or local shop.

Its fine now after i shut it off for the night. I had gotten on it the night it started and its fine now.

Re: Need Help Problems are Back

What year/model/make is your car? It sounds like you have a very common problem and likely have a code P1811 stored in the pcm history which is for max adapt shift. The pcm will monitor how long each shift takes to complete and if it is slipping excessively more than it wants to see and compensate for the code will set, but it will not turn on the check engine light so you wont know unless you scan the car. The hard shifting will go away with a key cycle until the problem is present again. When this code sets at that moment it will dissable adaptive shift pressure and go to max line pressure as a failsafe and cause your hard shifts. Likely since the weather has been bad you havent been driving the car too hard so the trans hasnt been under enough load to cause the excessive slippage and that is why it didnt start shifting hard as the code wasnt setting. There is more information about this on my info page in the link in my sig

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT and the same Transmission shifting problem as isucyclones3, Shifting hard from 1-2 and 2-3 and 3-4gear ok, Turn off car and resets and runs ok for a few miles, Had trans checked out by AAMCO said that pcm code max pressure and trans needs complete rebuild. My question is How hard is it to change the EPC solenoid ? Do I have to pull out Trans?
