Possible cylinder misfire

I had a friend of the family do some work on my grand prix (1996 3.1 SE) about one month ago. He changed the intake gaskets and the manifold had a crack in it so it was replaced. He also changed the spark plugs while he was in there.

It ran a lot rougher after the work was done and idled very roughly. Never stalled out although it felt/sounded like it would.

While driving today the SES light began blinking and there was a ticking noise under the hood. The rough idle continued. A neighbor who has more automotive knowledge than myself looked at it and made a blind claim that the cylinder seemed to be misfiring which causes the SES light to blink.

My question is whether or not the previous work done to it a month ago could cause this to happen? If it is indeed the cylinder misfiring, how much will a repair cost me? **I will take it tomorrow to read the codes but i wanted to get some preliminary ideas from this group!

Thanks all

Yes it could, Fuel injector may be leaking or not working right.

A blinking ses light is the warning that damage will occur to your catalytic converter if u continue. Usually caused by a solid misfire.
If it was ticking as soon as the job was done, with the misfires, your friend may have not placed the pushrods back in the correct order, and a valve is bent. I had this worry also (http://www.grandprixforums.net/f15/rods-23141.html). If the rods were definately placed in the correct order, take the valve covers off (2 min for the front, 2 beers and some cussing for the rear). Check to see if u can locate the origin of the tick though first before you start. When you pull the valve covers, check for a backed out rocker arm, or a pushrod that is loose in the arm. My rocker arm backed out the the head, and was able to recover the rod, and retorque the head, problem fixed.
This is my two cents, but I had this problem about 2 months ago, so i consider it good advice lol
