Fuel For The Soul
Hey so my car (05 GP GTP) came with two remotes and keys. Recently both the remotes started acting weird. One remote will lock and unlock the car fine, but refuses to remote start it and the other one will lock and start it, but won't unlock it. I was at the store today with the lock and start one and I stood next to the door for two minutes trying to get the remote to unlock the doors (only one key works to open the door and it was with the other remote lol) Both remotes will open the trunk after a few seconds and I think both panics work. Also, I did open them up and it's not the battery connections and I don't think it's the receiver in the car because all the features work just not on both remotes...

The remotes are so simple its complicated. If the solder points aren't broken on them, its either the battery is low and its not powering it like it should, or it possibly might need to be reprogrammed. Ive seen them sometimes get grime under the buttons and cause issues, make sure you clean the contact points well too.

If the contacts are clean, solder isn't broken on battery connections, and good battery, try reprogramming or replace the remotes. simple as that. Ive never had any gm car come in with a bad or messed up receiver, its always the remotes (not that the receiver COULDN'T go bad, just haven't ever seen one).

Tried cleaning them out w/ compressed air and they both work a little better now. Might need a reprogram but idk... does a dealer have to do that?

Update: So if anyone else has this problem, I put aluminum foil in between the board and the buttons and it works perfectly now :th_thumbsup-wink:
