Popping Sounds When Turning?

I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and I've owned it for about a year now and whenever I make a turn I hear popping sounds coming from the front of the car. Anybody have a clue what this might be?

Or half shafts... Does it get faster the faster you go through the turn? and does it get worse the harder you turn??? Annnddd....does it do it on both sides??

Im putting my money on your half shafts (FWD drive-shafts)

I notice it a lot when I'm backing up while I'm turning. Not so much when I'm turning while I'm driving 20+ mph, but it does it a little bit while I'm driving 20+ mph. More when I'm going slow basically.

Sounds like CV joints...when your backing up the speed is low enough to allow them to click...at higher speed in forward motion the weight of the car prolly keeps them from clicking as noticebly..yes they are sort of spendy if you cant do them yourself..good luck...

I wouldnt put it off too long...they can break almost any time and create mayhem w/the rest of your drivetrain...not worth the risk IMO..

I had a popping like that before when i would turn the wheel and when i would go over a bump it turned out to be a broken sway bar. Mine was broken right at the sway bar link!

Yeah, basically when the CV joint in the Axle goes bad, it clicks/pops like hell when turning, the sharper the turn, the louder/harsher the click/pop. It's pretty easy to replace, and they arent tooo expensive..

Think I spent about $150 for both at Advance Auto Parts, and they are lifetime warrenty.

Plus some tranny fluid... 20 bucks a bottle?

Not to bring this all up again... But I brought my car to my mechanic and had him listen to the popping and he said it's normal and cars do that. Idk what to think. I had my tires off and was looking and the CV axle and stuff and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary wrong with it. What are visual signs something like that's going bad?

I've had that same noise and I found that my spring had snapped. This is pretty simple to fix as long as u have a COMPRESSION TOOL !! Without this tool u have a very hard time trying to compress the spring enough. I found that the tool is only about 14$ and is key to replacing the spring!
