Popping noise

I have a weird popping noise in the front of my car. Does it taking off from park to drive or park to reverse. Brought it to a garage and the mechanic said the only thing he found was a loose sway bar bushing. He said that may be causing the noise but seems to me like a motor or tranny mount.

Any opinions on wht I'm hearing or what I should look at?? The mechanic said that the mounts he found were tight under the motor.

Motor/trans mount failures are more than common.

Of course they're tight, because the engine sits on them. Get a new mechanic.

It's 4, 15mm nuts per side...remove nuts top and bottom...jack up from each side (drivers side is trans, pass. is motor)...I'd recommend having two people to do the engine mount because it needs a little love to go in there correctly.

pop the hood and watch the engine as you shift it in and out of gear. if its moving a lot back and fourth the lower mounts are dead.

The popping noise is the pass. Side. That's the tranny mount side right? There is just the motor mount and tranny mount then the 2 top dog bone mounts right? I thought I heard someone say something about 2 more bottom motor mounts? Anyone have a picture of where these mounts are?

So my strut mount would pop from just putting the car into drive or reverse?? I highly doubt it. Thanks anyway bill. Thanks for that link!

Highly doubt me all you'd like, the downside is ...I'm likely right.

When you shift from P to D or R there is a shifting of torque onto the driveline/suspension that was not there a min ago. This will effect the mounts, brakes, and suspension.

you can pop the hood fire up the car, then rock the steering wheel back and fourth while watching the center part of the strut mount. ( the cup with a bolt in the middle) if that cup is moving back and fourth your strut mounts are shot.

K I'll try it but it makes no sense that if that strut mount is bad it isn't making any noises hitting bumps or turning only when I shift and come onto the gas.

Don't mean any disrespect honestly Im sure you guys know way more about these cars then me.

they all move a bit, its how much are they moving, and what does that rubber part look like?

strut mounts are strut mounts. what i did was bought new mounts, then took the struts off the car, and then dropped the struts and new mounts at the front end shop. they charged me 25 or 30 bucks to swap the mounts. if you dont have air tolls, your changing them yourself.
