Popping and Thumping noise.

Recently my 02 GP GT has started making an odd popping/thumping noise from the front end. Only noticeable above about 40MPH and goes away when turning left. Is loud enough to hear inside the vehicle with the windows up and you can feel it in the steering wheel and the pedals. My initial thought was a CV axle, however I jacked the car up and there's no play in the wheel itself and the noise isn't rhythmic. Any ideas? Still looking at a CV axle most likely?

Could be the CV. Could also be a wheel bearing. Did you check for side to side as well as up/down play on the tire?

I did check play in both directions. I just had my passenger side wheel hub replaced 3-4 months ago due to getting stuck in a mud puddle during the winter and getting mud into the wheel hub.

I have not, but I didn't figure the motor mount would be making a continuous noise that's dependent upon speed and the direction of wheels at speed.... Could I be incorrect in my thinking?

Sorry I totally read the op wrong. Try jacking up the car and put your hand on the spring. Rotate the tire and if and if you feel vibration, the bearing is bad. How is the tire on that side? Any abnormal wear?

No abnormal wear on the tires at all. I jacked it up and rotated both front wheels, didn't look for vibration, but listened for noise. The driver's side seemed normal, the passenger side had some noise to the rotation.

Just to tie up the thread it was a CV Axle. The last shop that worked on it never fully seated the CV axle and in turn it destroyed the axle.
