police package parts

I need to change my right CV axle, and decided to go to the junk yard 1st to see if i could find any good ones. I ran across a 02 police package impala and decided i'll take that one, with no success (broke my pry bar). but i did some searching and there's an argument on the forum between 2 ppl as to whether or not the transmission is HD or not.

MY other question is, would the front and rear sway bars and trailing arms off of it be an upgrade like the GMPP ones?

the suspension is the GMPP stuff, yes.

as far as the transmission im not sure, but i dont think they got the HD package. the HD package only came with 2.93 gears and all of those impalas are n/a. 2.93 gears only came on the supercharged cars.

The police package is a 7B3 RPO package and is a upgrade to stock... that being said, I don't know if it is an upgrade like the GMPP ones.

The trans is just like a GT trans. Non-HD 3.29. Front and rear bars are GMPP, not sure on the trailing arms. Alternator is higher amp, also auxiliary oil and transmission coolers.

ok, so the axle is a no go....which is upsetting, since i broke my pry bar for no reason now. but i'm definitely violating that car tomorrow lol. I love this yard...they are soooo cheap sways are only $10 each!

Oh yeah, before i forget. i took the strut tower brace off another car already, i see i have to drill holes to make it work....is this even worth it? seems kinda light, and i saw the the one on my donor car is bent in the middle...

If they're gmpp stb's u can get an actual brace that will bolt onto ur strut tower bolts so you don't have to drill holes. ............I found this out after I got mine and drilled holes, which I was NOT happy about doing!!

Do you know of hand where i can get those braces? it just seems better to have them mounted to the actual struts than just the body.

Regals of certain years etc had the STB's stock. Drilling and mounting directly will get one more bracket out of the potential flex of the bar. yes the bars help, and yes..you should toss one in the back as well. Right..rear STB.

Here's a little more info/part numbers on the police package parts.

Wish I wouldn't have been like a little kid on xmas morning when I got my stb and started drillin away! I should've looked into it and got brackets. Now I've got holes in my shiiiit!

Ok, thanks for the help...i'm going to search for regals first and if anything, buy the brackets. I got the front sway bar off today, but was having trouble with the rear as the bolt was stripped. also, as a heads up to anyone...the trailing arms ARE tubular, so those will be coming as well. I just hope the car's still there sunday since thats the next time i'll have time to go

you can still buy those brackets.
