plog or pacesetters?

so i have hit a deciding point. I was going to get a ceramic coated stainless plog, but now I am not sure if i should just save up a little more to get the ceramic coated pacesetter headers. I have gotten mixed reviews about the pacesetters, some said they suck and it actually made their car lose power, and some say its really good. I've also heard alot about fitment issues. I figured I would ask what you all think. Are the pacesetters any good?

Depends on how far you want to go. If you're serious about modding, get headers.

If you want a moderate gain and that's it, get the Plog.

yea... my thing is i plan on having this car for a really long time, and I feel like eventually im probably gonna want them some day once i start doing more mods. but are the pacesetters really that good compared to TOG's or the SLP headers?

From what I understand the Pacesetters are made out of mild steel. Theres also the S&S Autocrome headers that supposedly have a lot better fit than the pacesetters but they are made of mild steel also.

My quick google search of "mild steel" tells me that it is basically cheap steel with a low carbon content. It also rusts.

I dunno if I would put something as big as headers on my car with steel of such bad quality and not worry about it. But the SLP and TOG headers are twice the price, but thats probably becuase they are twice as better quality.

SS Autochrome ones are actually stainless not mild steel, and for the price they seem like a helluva deal to me. Or you could always find some used header's in the classifieds for fairly cheap. If I were you I'd get some SS Autochrome ones and wrap them.

Ive been reading about the Autochrome headers and by all accounts they have stepped up quality on them and they are at a very good price. But Ive considered a stainless PLOG as well just because I dont know that I'll take the car that far.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and spend the money and get the headers. That way down the road, if you do more modding, you'll already be covered in that department and not have to spend even more money. It would be a good long term investment.

i looked into the ss autochromes... they actually are mild steel it says on their site. And they are out of stock. Im not sure but I think i might want either the slp's or tog's... is either one any better than the other? i like slp because I know they have a good reputation and plus i have their catback in my car but i want to get some opinions

Me personally, I like SLP also, but have heard good about TOG's too. Don't really think you can go wrong either way. Will come down more to personal preferance.

The ones on E-bay which are XS-power are also S&s autochrome, and they are SS tubing with Mild steel flanges.....and IIRC, stock exhaust is mild steel, so it's not like it'll fall apart after a week.....

ZZP headers were the TOGs design but better. They evened out the runners ore, and smoothed them out better. In the end they cost about the same as the TOGs and supporting mods around them, so you might as well go ZZP headers if you choose to go the TOG route.

If you read up on the articles about developing the ZZP headers it says Zoomer had a meeting with one of the makers/owners of the TOGs in which they agreed that Zoomer could start making the design. He developed them even further.

If you have the money than go with TOGs or ZZP headers, otherwise if your like the rest of us who can't justify spending $700+ on header's get SS Autochromes or Pacesetters.

Exactly.:th_thumb-up:

I went with the coated Pacesetter's and have never had ANY problems. Put them in when the cam was installed. Only thing I would tell you is to SEAL SEAL SEAL them...take your time and make sure you RTV the s**t outta the flanges:cool:

I would never spend that kinda money on headers anyway even if I had it b/c that is money well saved towards some other go fast part :D

P-logs are a waste unless you're going with a Turbo. Don't waste the time if staying S/Ced, get Headers, choose your flavor. I'm biased, I love my TOGs...

Go with Pacesetters unless you get a really good deal on a set of TOG's or SLP's. I've got Pacesetters and there is nothing wrong with them, the only problem with them are the morons that install them wrong.

Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say morons can't install them right, but it does take a set to understand what you need to do to make them fit correctly.

There's times that I hate my pacesetters like when I have an engine mount go out at the track, and it pulls the flanges apart. :th_shakinghead2:
But when I look back and think that I got them for $400 cheaper than TOG's....I settle back down.

P-Log = good low end torque, mid picks up, but the top end is still not where it could be.
Headers = virtually no low end torque compared to the stock, but once she gets wound up, it's no comparison from 50mph and up. They just pull and pull.

i love watching my needle go from 50-80. that's the fastest sweep mine has. also the biggest gaps in the speedo lines, hah.

so are you saying that headers would do worse in a 1/4mile than a plog? because its usually torque that wins 1/4 mile drags
