Well as most of you know already I am a cop. But cop or not I love cars and given the chance will "run" just about anything but, I keep it to a certain point. I know this doesnt make it right but listen to what I'm about to tell you. We arrested (we as the department) a 19yr old young man for Vehicular Manslaughter. He was driving down a road here in the city while his friend followed in his car. Well being young and loving cars as we do, they started to mess with each other. His friend tried to pass and the 19yr old floored it. Here they are at a VERY high rate of speed on a 2 lane road. His friend loses control and wrecks. He's dead. Now cause the DA feels that if the 19yr old wasnt racing him, it never would have happened. This young mans life is now over. Regardless if he's found guilty or not, he will never be the same. So please PLEASE becareful and try to keep it at the track.

Thats ashame and could have been prevented...but we all know street racing and accidents like this will continue to happen.I agree with what you are saying though.I dont play on public rds unless there are no other cars around.

Its sad to hear about someone that young messing the rest of his life up. I dont go looking for a "run", but if the oppertunity presents itself normally im game. Ill run someone up to the speed limit on roads, and lil higher on the interstates (around here its 70)...all in a straight line, not waveing in and out if traffic or in the emergency lane (like ive seen done WAY too many times).

Wow sad to hear, I hope he doesn't go to jail though because than his life is will be ruined, plus there was no intent to commit harm and your not giving any details on how he crashed.

That's very sad though, same situation happened to this kid I know, scarred for life, thanks for sharing.

Totally off topic I know, but was either of them driving a GP?

a kid in a ricer just wrapped himself around a pole the other day doing 70 in a 35.... in city limits.

He shouldnt be charged with vehicular manslughter, maybe a buttoad of other charges but it wasnt him that forced the other stooge to race, thats a personal choice.

peer pressure has been used in courts before.

yes, been down that road before personally....

However, how is it peer pressure when its two guys driving down the road in seperate vehicles, I can see a atleast 5 year revoke but manslaughter is a very heavy charge for being an idiot. He didnt cause the car or operator to lose control thats on the dead guy. It can be fought and won in the defendants favor if the kids lawyer can fight like a true lawyer and not an overpaid idiot.

What if it had been a cop in this kids shoes? the cop would be sitting at home collecting a paycheck till IA got done investigating.

ok, and? he went to pass, ive had dickheads do the same **** to me on nearly a daily basis. No one made the kid speed up but his own mind and muscles.

it was his friend in the other car, the fact is they were racing, and one died, he should have to suffer for that stupidity

AND I bet the kids family will sue too. No one can take a blow anymore. Its sad what this country has become, a bunch of whiners.

you dont think he already is suffering? he shouldnt be jailed over this, it was not intentional at all, he isnt a killer or a murderer or what have you.
revoke his liscense, put him on house arrest for 90 days and probation for the duration of his revoktion.**

I think he should have to sit in prison and clean up the dead bodies from stupid kids (of course I think anyone who street races should get that) probation is a waste of time, it's a slap on the wrist, also revoking a license means he can't get it back, what you specify is a suspension

Probation is a waste of time since the turn over rate it extremely high. 70mph in a 30 zone is considered reckless driving. So even if he wasn't racing someone and wrecked and killed his friend in the passenger seat it's still considered Vehicular Homicide. States argument is simple, if he would have just let his friend pass this would have never happened. Now let's see how a Jury feels. I will keep you posted when/if I find anything out. Btw... wasn't a GP just wanted everyone to take a second thought if times come.

I keep everything at the track! I run a Super Gas Roadster and the wife runs the GTP. We have a 4 year old and I want him to have parents as long as possible. I don't like street racing for the simple fact that most people don't know how to drive, let alone at a high rate of speed! Don't mean to offend anyone just my opinion.

If anyone is familiar with TN they can tell you about the car show that went wrong few years back. It was a show "Cars for Kids" if I recall. Had a lane roped off for ppl to do burnouts in and of coarse you can imagine the crowd it drew. Well the next car up was a rail dragster. During his burn out it griped traction for a slight second and launched. He lost control and hit the crowd killing several including some younger teens. He was charged and indicted on several reckless homicide charges. It wasnt his fault and to this day I feel it's the shows responsibilty but thats not how it turned out. Now the driver faces long time in prison/probation and the show holders caught a fine.
