I almost ran outta gas today i have a 99 gtp with a 17 gallon tank im told..... well my dic said i had about 48 miles left and my guage was about a hash mark off from the yellow or w.e anyways i am running really low on gas anyways i go filler up and the pump shuts off at 12 gallons?? where the hell is the magical other 5 gallons ????

Well, this is what I try to convey to people when they are trying to calculate fuel economy, this very issue. The fuel nozzles are horribly inaccurate in their cut off points. I can usually add a couple to three gallons on some pumps. I always pull the handle out until the nozzle just does open the flap in the fill neck. Then pump the gas as slow as I can. I do all I can to make sure Ive gotten every drop of gas i can in the tank. It is VITAL in being able to accurately calculate fuel mileage.

You cannot judge how much fuel your tank is holding by when the fuel handle clicks off. However, that all said, there could be issues with the vent tube I think Reptile once pointed out though I have never seen this issue occur with any vehicle I have ever owned.

You also cannot go by what the DIC says regarding your range. The DIC is fairly inaccurate in dealing with combined driving or mix driving of highway and city driving in other words. If you do all highway or all city then its pretty good, but few people do that kind of driving.
