Please help Caliper mounting bolts

Hi my 02 gp's caliper mounting bolt flung on the the highway. So i pulled it apart and my threads in the caliper mounting bracker are all beat up and gone. So i drilled it out tapped it and inserted a helicoil insert to the original bolt size. Now the bolt wont thread in all the way. So can someone help me with what to do next

Either the helicoil is not set correctly or you didn't cut the threads for it deep enough.
Remove the helicoil, retap and install a new helicoil.

Ya thats what im going to try tomorrow. Whats the easiest way to remove the helicoil. Im never used them before. Im pretty much sure that i need to make them shorter because when it gets to the unthreaded point of thr bolt thats when it quits

Yep you didn't cut the threads deep enough then.

You're gonna have to either get the helicoil out or get a tap the same size as the bolt and try to run it down through the installed helicoil.
I would try to tap the helicoil first. If that doesn't work you'll have to use a pick and try to lift the coil away from the thread and start pulling it out in circular motion. Once the helicoil is out you can retap and reinstall a new helicoil. They make the helicoils different depths. You might need a shorter one. You cannot cut a helicoil to make it shorter 'cause you'll bur the end and the bolt wont start without tearing up the threads. The other end cannot be shortened because the tang is required for installation.

Good luck

Forget drilling and helicoiling... I'd head over to the parts store and buy a new caliper. Advance Auto includes brackets with most or all of their calipers. $35 fix and there's no safety issue.
