So I work at advance auto and I have previouslt worked in a shop, but I just don't understand why ppl are so sexist when it comes to women knowing **** about cars. Its unreal, just cause we don't have a penis doesn't mean we can't get dirty or enjoy cars. So I ask honestly what's the real answer for why guys don't like women selling them parts or working on there car? Are they afraid the girl is better at it, or does it make them feel insecure or are they just freaking stupid?

I actually had an incident like this yesterday. I got called and they asked to speak to the draftsman... I handed the phone to the woman that does all the CAD drawing. From her replies... she basically established that the guy was offended that she was a female.

I don't care... I work on my own car... I could care less who sells me parts as long as I get them.

Its a guy thing. Us guys and cars go together its just in our "DNA" lol.But i dont care if a woman sells me parts or suggests parts for my car.Workin on it is a diff story although my ex loved to work on her car and even helped me with mine with a few things.

It's kind of built in to our brains. I don't really care because most of the guys behind the counter are always trying to give me what THEY think i should buy or put into a car. Most girls are more open and I can get the information/part I need quickly.

Most of those guys coming through that place probably beat their wives as well, so don't worry about it, there are worse things.

Male customer: I need to you change my turbocharger belt on my car.

Female service advisor: Turbochargers do not use belts, do you mean supercharger?

Male customer: No, I need you to change my turbocharger belt. Is there anyone else I can speak to?

so many lulz.

Because most guys are assholes, especially little jerks who think their honda civic with a fart can on it is cool. :th_laugh-lol3:

I find that women are easier to talk to anyway, most of them listen, where guys think they know everything. :th_angry2:

in most any customer service position id rather deal with women, use some common courtesy, ask how their day is going, they are much more personable to talk to.. and usually you get better results by being just a little nicer.

no offense but every woman in a parts store I've been in has been next to worthless when it comes to helping me find what I need but I wouldn't say their all that way, and I would also point out that most the men working in parts stores have been next to worthless in helping me lol

Well...in my experience...not sure why, but every women I've known first attempts to diagnose car trouble with "I turned off the radio and the problem is still there!"

Then when you end up running into a knowledgeable woman she's so bent out of shape because most guys assuming she's the above, that they become pushy in their application of knowledge. In the end we just try to avoid women. :)

Good to see some guys in here have a heart. Lol. Most of my guy friends think its sexy ill work on cars but I think maybe its the younger generations that aren't so sexist. But I have been denied two jobs in shops because I'm a girl. I was told there was no way I was strong enough to work on trannys.

If you're new to the place, establish that you're a calm, cool, knowledgeable and useful employee that gets results for customers. Your coworkers and regular customers ought to back you up, regardless of sex. Since you actually do know your way around a car, I'd suggest being extra eager to do OBDII scans, wiper blade installs, etc. to show it off a bit. It's not much, but you'd be surprised how many people have absolutely no idea how to install their wiper blades and will be impressed when you do it for them in under 2 minutes.

I second this. No offense, but as a GM Parts guy, I tend to run into ALOT of women who "know cars" and they know less than our detail guys. I also have dealt with the auto store people downtown who are worthless, guys and girls alike, but OCCASIONALLY do run into a female that can actually call BS on turbocharger belts, muffler bearings, and know that blinker fluid does exist; its a heat dispersing gel for HID headlights :th_laugh-lol2:

The local Autozone manager is a woman, she is pretty knowledgable but has no memory and will triple check what im working on before she gets the part pulled up... this aggravates me but she does know her stuff.

Knowledge comes from experience and MOST girls don't want to get the hands on experience that guys tend to do, we like being dirty and cut up and what better way than to dismantle your engine for no reason other than cleaning off the carbon on the cylinders :th_winking:

Problem is most places hire without experience which is wicked stupid, or they hire girls cause they are pretty or have nice assets and don't think that they are gonna suck at the job. But oh well I guess such is life and ill have to deal with all the assholes that come along with my choice of career.

Nothing wrong with nice assets :th_laugh-lol3:

Your "sisters" in the industry probably just create the stereotype for you... As you said there are plenty of girls that get hired places because they are girls...

A friend of mine (cute girl, 22years old) has an automotive degree from UNO automotive college, worked at autozone for 2 years... and I wouldnt let her change my wiper blades...

I was an idiot and got her a job with some friends at pratt and miller (corvette race team build shop).... My friends hated me because of how usless she was and how the rich owners loved having her around (they used her for marketing, etc.)

So for someone looking to hire a mechanic that will make them a ton of money, and do quality work, you need to really blow the "car girl" mold out of the water.

Sex sales, and girls with nice ASSets in a place full of guys wanting to buy stuff tends to increase profits :th_laugh-lol3:

I am guilty of talking to the girls in the parts stores because they are hot, but when I need a question answered, I go to the guys that I KNOW will know the answer. Not saying the girls don't know anything, they may know, but if they seem like the ones that are hired for their assets then I ask the guys that do know.
