Ya know, I had no idea that motor mounts were filled with oil or w/e is in them on our cars. No clue! WHY did GM do this? I know, I know, it's the $64,000 question...lol. Why do they do a lot of the things that they do? lol I've read about the debates over which is better for replacement, hydraulic or solid, so not sure yet which I should get.

my Mom went to Vo-Tech adult classes at night just to have something to do, and got her certification for brakes and front end alignment when she was in her 50's lo

hydraulic is for comfort so you don't feel engine vibration. go with the solid mounts. you won't regret it.

your best bet is to go get 2 or 3 cans of de greaser from the parts store, pull into a self wash car wash place with a power washer deal. spray every thing down, then wash the hell out of it, do it 2 or 3 times if need be. a old paint brush works to loosen up thick stuff.

every thing under your hood can get wet. just dont directly nail the alternator.

after you clean it up park over card board and then in the morning try to look up and trace the oil leak. if you can park on car ramps over night this makes it easy to look with out loosing the oil drops on the card board as a starting point.
 
Are the ones that AutoZone sells the solid ones? If not, where to get them from? I've read that even tho they may say they're solid, some have drilled into them and they aren't.

I did spray what I had left from 2 cans of degreaser today and rinsed it off, but will buy some more tomorrow and redo it again. I don't have any ramps, so just the cardboard will have to do.

Would it be a good idea to take off that splash shield that covers the mount? Would that mess up the belts at all?

If you goto AZ and get mounts to verify they are solid you can shake them and if they slosh they are hydraulic I THINK. Vibration shouldnt be a huge problem unless you did poly mounts.

most come with fluid or its hollow with no fluid. the poly mounts are home made. not store bought.

you can buy a new mount drill a few holes and fill the cavity of the mount with polyurethane caulking. tet it cure, then install the new mount.

the only true solid mount seems to be ZZP's but they want 130 for one.
 


Okay, thank you. Got the engine/front end all cleaned up this morning, did a good job hopefully. Only problem is that it's supposed to be raining here today/tonight, so not sure whether or not I should put the cardboard under the car. Wanted to let it sit there all night and check it in the morning, but if it's just going to get soaked...

I live in an apt. so I have no garage nor a covered place to park it or it wouldn't be an issue. I still need to wipe some water off in places like that u-shaped bracket that the motor mount mounts to and put the splash shield back on.

As long as I don't drive it (to prevent oil blowing back onto something else and making me think it's coming from somewhere else), it should be okay to put the cardboard down after the chance of rain is gone, even if that's tomorrow?
